It always amazes me how people jump in, start applying, work, and all that without finding out the most basic, easily accessed information about the platform they are using... Fixed price contract payments become available 6 days after oDesk receives payment from the client. That is NOT necessarily the same day the client processes the payment to the contractor. In your wallet it will give a date when the payment will become available. Hourly contract payments become available on the Wednesday after the week following the end of any given work week, which is a Sunday. That means any work done during this current week would show as pending after Sunday, and the money would become available to withdraw on Wednesday the 24th. Please read the contractor manual and learn how this site works...

Please I received a notification from odesk that i have received payment for a job I completed on 25th September. However it is still pending and there is no date attached to it. Sometimes when I check the payment details it says contract suspended even though i am done long ago, of which the client called to verify if payment had arrived. After waiting for sometime whilst it still pending, my client is not responding to my messages too. Please what should I do now.

Hi Shadrack, If you can't see an "Available on" date next to the payment it means that oDesk hasn't received the actual funds from your client as yet. A suspended contract may also mean trouble with the client's payment method. Please contact Customer Support for further info on this.

Always reach for the skies, for even if you fall, you'll still be on the top of the world...

I can't see the "avaliable on" in my pending operations, what does that means then?... I won't get paid? it was a fixed-price job

re: "I can't see the 'avaliable on' in my pending operations, what does that means then?... I won't get paid? it was a fixed-price job"

Edward:

No. This does not mean you will not get paid. It just means you need to be patient.

When you are doing a fixed rate project, they money goes through various steps.

You will see it when you click on the "Reports" tab in your contractor-side oDesk page.

The money starts out in "Work in Progress."

Then you do the job, and submit it. The money moves into "In Review."

Then the client releases the funds. The money moves into "Pending." It stays there for a short security period. 6 days, I believe.

Then the money moves into "Available." Only then is the money actually available. If the words "avaliable on" don't appear next to the money, don't worry so much. It could be that the money isn't yet to the step where such a note appears.

What if the client is offline, how long does it takes to move to pending for a fixed rate job

Hi Rebecca,

I checked your account and was able to locate only one contract. The funds from this contract are in the Review stage at the moment.

After 14 days the funds will be transferred to your account if no actions are taken on the milestone. Keep in mind that if you resubmit the work again you will reset the 14 days period. To learn more details about fixed price protection, check out this Help Article. Thank you.

My payment schedule is Wednesday. But what will show that am eligible to get paid

Hi Maritina,

Thank you for your message. After you complete a job on Upwork, your funds will be available here. You can initiate a fund withdrawal as soon as the earnings are available.

Thank you,

Pradeep
sir my hourly for previous week donot shows as pending or available
Do you mean for the week which has only just ended? The oDesk workweek ends with a Sunday. In that case the earnings will show late on Monday or early on Tuesday after the review period (where you have a chance to look at your work diary to check everything is in order) has passed. The earnings do not show as soon as the hours have been logged, but after the work week has ended and your review period is over. The earnings show up as pending at that point, and will clear for withdrawal next Wednesday (not this week, next week) provided the client does not dispute anything by Friday this week.

I have the same problem but today is Friday that mean 5 day after the week was closed and it does not say pending or available it says in review>. How long does that review period takes?

it will move to "pending" when the review period ends tonight at midnight UTC

It will be available to withdraw on Wednesday.

If you do the work, and the client has prepaid, and they're satisfied with the work, why is there anyone waiting period at all?

In this case we have 2 problem. 1. technichal - We live in a world where payments are made in seconds (paypal) or bank transfer (1 day), so that's why people don't like the 6 day thing - we are not in ninties. For example my client sent the payment via PayPal to Odesk and it will take 6 days until they let me withdraw than until it arrives in my account I have to wait another few days.BTW. Elance is faster 2. communication - when people see the "pending"world, they ask themselves, did the client payed me or not. They could write "payed, pending" or put an icon with an explicative text or a link to the status of payment. There are websites, where you never have questions, like google or apple which are made logical. They don't need a "how to use this website" page. And there are other issues here, most people hate financial infos, so they skip it, you love so that's your problem. Also some people work on more freelance websites so they can't memorize all the nonsense banking stuff. The payments are also very low, so people have to bid a lot, work a lot to make a living, there is not time...

Totally agree with you. In other words, Upwork is not a user friendly platform for newbies. Their instructions on FAQs are very confusing and not organize. It's like they are making it complicated.

Hi Mac Lester,

I'm sorry you feel this way, our goal is to make it as easy as possible for new users to create an account and start using our platform, while retaining a high level of security and quality of our marketplace. If you found our Help articles confusing please check the resources we compiled here and let us know if you have any questions afterwards.

I'm aware of your dissatisfaction with the payment processing time frame on Upwork and while we understand your frustration and value your feedback, note that we don't plan to change the Escrow release timeline you mentioned in your other post. Also, please refer to our Community Guidelines and refrain from reposting the same comment, since this practice is not allowed in the forums.

Vlad, you guys are like a ping pong ball on this issue...for a while you're testing, then you have no plans to change, then one of us says you tested and came back and said you have no plans to change and a mod jumps in to say you're still testing...which is it? Have you decided not to change for the foreseeable future, or are you still testing possibilities?

Tiffany, we are probably all "confused" again 😉

If you type in "pending earnings odesk" in Google, this is actually the answer that comes up first and it is a lot faster than looking through the help files to find the answers on oDesk. So you shouldn't complain about someone asking a question that already has an answer available somewhere. Most likely, he wasn't able to find the answer easily and that is why he asked. Now this exact thread has priority over any other match for these keywords, so your time was not wasted 😉

Solved my question. Thanks!

I am curious. This is the Upwork community forum yet in most of the forum posts oDesk is mentioned over and over. Is this really oDesk? Have we former Elancers been cunningly deceived...

Elance interface is much better than Upwork, Everything here is so confusing even after one has already spent 1 month to know things. The interface is very poor and the website is lacking some lively performance, Its almost like a dead one. How still one intends to work or post jobs here, I just don't understand???

Hi Kamaleswar,

I am sorry you are confused by the Upwork system. Please, let us know if you need help understanding any particular feature or process and we'll be happy to help.

You may also check out the Help Center. There is a lot of useful information about everything Upwork there.

maybe its too long and confussing for people

there should be a short FAQ section..

The ego on you haha. Just be nice and answer his question without making him feel bad.

I don't think that's what she is asking. I've been doing this for three years and I have a question about it The payment is listed as PENDING no date for payout and has been that way for days. It makes me think the client's having issues on their end actually making the payment (which is odd since it should have been funded already...)

Hi Angela,

It looks like there are problems with your client's payment method and they need to fix them in order for the payment to go through. You can communicate with them and ask them to resolve the issue.

Really? Was this necessary ?

I agree. It's super rude and condescending. Does this person actualy work for upwork?

Hi Hannah,

Thank you for participating in this thread. I would like to point out that this thread is from August of 2019.

As for your concern, please know that only Upwork employees have the Upwork logo on their Community profile picture/account (just like how mine is displayed here).

Geez calm down, he asked a doubt. Can you not answer it and keep it at that?

Here's what amazes me, the service holds payments for no **bleep** reason and charges 20% when getting started. Is this supposed to entice people to come here? Then there are the restrictions on what you can apply to. I've nearly 7 years experience, does that matter since I've not spent that time solely on upwork, nope. I've only taken on roughly 3-4 projects from this site because of the rapeage and idiotic payment hostage taking. If I do the work, I get paid in contract work the day my invoice is sent. Any client tries to pull what you guys do, they'd never get the files.

A joke. A really bad joke.

Then maybe you would know why I have this.

Hourly Contract
08/27/2018-09/02/2018
Pending 9/12/2018
How does that fit in the model you articulated?
