Why should a long time member who doesn't get work from upwork buy connects ?

Why should a long time member who doesn't get work from upwork buy connects ?

I understand that even for a seasoned and experienced Functional Documentation and End User Specialist like me, getting work initially is next to impossible.

How does UpWork help new freelancers overcome this obstacle ?

Hi David,

It's up to you whether you want to buy Connects or not. Freelancers that are on the Basic membership plan get 10 Connects every month plus an additional 10 for every interview they win (maximum 50 every seven days). They'll also receive 40 free Connects when they join Upwork and can earn 40 more free Connects for successfully passing the Upwork Readiness Test. For more information about Connects, you can check this help article.

To help you get started, I recommend checking out the Getting Started on Upwork thread and the Resource Center. There you’ll find some excellent topics and learn more about Upwork. To help you boost your Upwork career, on the Upwork's Events & Webinars page, you can find official Upwork hosted events along with the ones hosted by Top Rated freelancers.

Thank you.

Thanks for your email. I've joined a long time ago but gotten serious very
recently.

What about a minimum wage for a given type of work ?

re: "What about a minimum wage for a given type of work?"

That is in place.

The minimum allowable rate on Upwork is $3.00 per hour.

The minimum fixed-price project amount is $5.00.

I guess that's okay to generalize transactions.

Thanks, I am sure if there was anything that you guys could have done to
ensure a minimum wage was paid for let's say a 20 page user manual, you
would have done.

I understand that you can't decide as a platform what the minimum per hour
cost should be for User Manuals e.g. and in which country.

True, there is only so much that you can fix.

Well, you just bid what you're worth. That's your minimum. You will get hired if they think you're worth what you ask for. I'm doing a book cover right now for a higher budget than the client listed because she liked my portfolio.

Eager to read your book... 🙂 Reality is far from your assertion "You will
get hired . . . ". People have been posting videos on not getting work even
after buying connects. But then so have people who've got work.

I was mostly speaking to minimum wages not connects, but yes, your mileage may vary depending on your field.
