Why to link LinkedIN and Facebook accounts?

Greetings Upworkers,

Was just curious as to what are the advantages of linking the LinkedIN and Facebook profiles to an Upwork profile?

On the flip side, wouldn't it allow the client to contract a freelancer outside of Upwork, thereby violating their ToS?

Kindly advise

Thanks

These linked accounts won't actually be visible on your profile. Linking the accounts only serves to help UpWork to  confirm your identity, and supposedly their secretive algorithms can crawl the information on the linked accounts and use the data they gather to recommend jobs for you and/or show you in search results for something you might not have put on your profile, but that is still apparent in your linked accounts.

Probuddha,

It's a way to lower the signal-to-noise ratio in job matches by providing extraneous information for the matching algorithms to misinterpret.

Best,
Michael

"that's an entirely new level of sarcasm. Smiley Very Happy"

Aye, it's called "honed by UpWork".

I accept the compliment, Gabor, although I was doing my best to be objectively descriptive.

Michael,

That's so good I officially deem you worthy of spelling humour with two u's...

A high honor, indeed! (<==incorrigible)
