I haven't been that active on Upwork since November (have gotten somewhat frustrated with clients who want quality, skilled work for less pay than the people at the supermarket who ask "Paper or plastic?"). My JSS has been dropping, and although I completed two small jobs successfully in the past 10 days, I see that this week my JSS dropped below 90% for the first time since I became Top Rated. I'm not even going to try to figure out their logic regarding JSS, but does anyone know if I can stay Top Rated if my JSS falls below 90%? (The badge is presently still showing.)

I'm not exactly sure how JSS and top-rated status really work, but I only get paid via a bonus by a client every month or so (and have done this for several months now) and my JSS hasn't changed at all. It might be because I am still getting paid on a regular basis, even though I haven't gotten a new job in months, but it is difficult to know when the details of JSS are so hidden.

Hi Bettye,
To earn and maintain Top Rated status you must have:
1. A current Job Success Score of 90% or higher
2. First hire on Upwork was more than 90 days ago
3. Maintained Rising Talent status or a Job Success Score of at least 90% for at least 13 of the last 16 weeks
4. 100% complete profile
5. 12-month earnings of at least $1,000
6. Up-to-date availability
7. An account in good standing with no recent account holds

With that criteria, I can't imagine why my score dropped, but as I said, life's too short to try to figure out how that works. Since I'm now down to 89%, it looks like I'll be losing my badge. Oh, well. I can probably still get the occasional odd job without it. Fortunately for me, my own freelance clients are keeping me fairly busy...
Thanks for your replies.

That is weird, I can also still see it. According to the requirements, it should disappear, and there is no way to be top rated with a JSS of 89, except to go over 90 again....

If you know which contract affected yourJSS, you can use your top rated perk to exclude it from your JSS calculation (provided you have not used it during the last 10 jobs or 3 months.)
When people lose their top rated status it always takes 24 hours or so for the badge to vanish.

Thank you, Petra. I actually did refund a client after a personality conflict a few months ago, within 10 jobs (I did feel vindicated when the client came back and said she'd hired and fired several editors who didn't capture the spirit of her project the way I had, but I declined to take the job back when she asked me to). At that time my JSS was 98%. I lost 3 points after that, and it's been dropping further since I stopped being active in December and January...93%...91%...now 89%. I think the drop is more due to my inactivity than my job performance, so I'll just deal with it. I'm not going to jump through hoops and work for less than I'm worth just to get into Upwork's good graces. Best to stick with my regular periodic Upwork clients when they call on me and focus more on my non-Upwork clients (where I get to keep all my earnings without having them take 20% or 10%).
