I am using “Direct to local bank” to get my earnings from Upwork to my local bank, State Bank of India, in India.
Sometimes the money is deposited in my local bank account on the same day.
At other times, it can take one or several more days for the money to reach my local SBI bank account.
Can some Upwork moderator help me understand why there is such a variation in deposit times?
Also, can some Upwork moderator tell me where does my money go when Upwork releases it?
Which is the intermediary financial institution that Upwork has tied up with to transfer my funds to my local SBI account?
Thank you.

Hi Ravindra,
As Nikola mentioned, Upwork uses different payment processors, and we can't determine which one is used for a given withdrawal until it's processed. This is independent of the bank you use to withdraw your funds.

You have to ask your SBI branch for the delay, but they will not tell you any reason, as expected.
As I mentioned you few times already, today also I have initiated a transfer at around 7.30 AM IST and the amount get credited in my ICICI bank by 1.30 PM.

I doubt Upwork interacts directly with my local branch of SBI.
Whom does Upwork interact with?
Is it State Bank of India (California)?
If yes, which branch?
I have their email IDs and am willing to contact them.

In the interest of fostering and enhancing transparency, would Upwork please respond?

Hi Ravindra,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I would be happy to help. In general, Direct to Local Bank payments take up to seven business days to arrive at your bank. There is a 12:00 pm (noon) UTC cutoff time for same-day processing. After that, transfers will be processed the following business day. Bank holidays in the U.S. or your country can delay your funds. Additionally, Upwork uses several payment processors, and we cannot determine which one until the withdrawal is being processed.
You may want to check this help article for more information.

Hi Nikola,
Thank you for your reply.
I am already aware of the basic information such as “There is a 12:00 pm (noon) UTC cutoff time for same-day processing. After that, transfers will be processed the following business day. Bank holidays in the U.S. or your country can delay your funds.”
BTW, there were no holidays (other than a second Saturday and a Sunday) in India, and a Google search suggests that there we no holidays in the US other than Saturday and Sunday.

I am more concerned that there is a wide variation in delivery times.
Are you suggesting that for even a specific bank (State Bank of India, in my case), there can be different processors?
In that case, only the support team can follow up on the processor if there is an inordinate delay.
Best regards,
Ravindra

They are not suggesting anything. They are saying it is not Upwork's control and they cant be specific on the payment processors. May be you try open an account in some other bank like ICICI / AXIS / HDFC and try transferring the funds to that account. In case if you will get the amount sooner, then you will understand the problem is with your current bank.

You've posted in an open forum. So I have shared my experience. If you need only Upwork team's intervention you can contact them through a support ticket.
All the best.

I am sorry if you felt offended.
I appreciate your good intentions.
However, this post has other ramifications, and I want a moderator to clear it up.
I usually post in the forums not just to receive help and guidance, but also so that other freelancers that have similar problems can benefit too.
I don’t see any need to open another bank account just to receive funds from Upwork.

Hi Luiggi,
Thank you for the confirmation that the processor is independent of the bank.
I hope Upwork keeps the stats on the performance of the processors so that the payments can be streamlined.
Best regards,
Ravindra
