confused newbie..Why am I forced to put an hourly rate on fixed price proposals?

HI all,

I can't find this in the boards with the search so sorry if I'm repeating here. I also tried to submit this query to upwork but it wouldn't submit, nor did anyone ever come on in live chat.

I am new to upwork and every time I place a bid for a fixed price contract, it still forces me to put in an hourly rate. Ok, I do that. Now I have been invited to work on a project, great, but they want to know what my hours will be. I responded that I would prefer to go ahead with the fixed rate, and they said fine, but want me to change that in my proposal. What do I do? I don't see any way to do that?

Thanks to all!!!!

You can't change it as a provider. Only the client can change to a fixed rate.  They might be asking you for estimated hours and cost, which they need for a fixed rate job.

Thanks for the reply, that was faster than customer service : )

That could explain it. I have sorted it out now. I am just starting out and there are some confusing elements, it's nice to have some help from those who have gone through it!

I have done this twice with clients and they don't seem to have had any problem going from hourly to fixed rate.

On the issue with submitting a request: You have probably figured this out by now, but when you have written your request and pressed submit and you get that really annoying pop-up that won't let you continue - just press on "Create Support Ticket" in the pop-up box and your request will go through.

Good luck!

Hah No! I had not figured that out. I tried about half a dozen times. I feel a bit of an idiot (maybe I am) but anyway THANKS for that useful advice ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad to be of help. This place is confusing when you're new.

I suspect this place could be confusing even when you're not new ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I feel less stressed knowing there are answers out there.

I'm sure I'll be back.... !
