hired or not

I have always been getting conflicting indications for a job I have posted.  When I log  in I see 1active job posted.   then i go to the job and see 0 hires.   I've made a deposit to cover the job.   Haven't been getting replys to my messages.    The person I hired is very reliable.   Is her getting my message.  What's uo?  I find communication / navigating the Upwork site extraordinarily difficult.   Please help.  Thanks
