I'm a little bit amazed by this. I was given an invite via email to this group, which i thought was great - I'd get myself a shiney little badge on my oDesk profile to show off my hard work and commitment to my clients. The initial invite email started with;
"Great news! Your high-quality work and strong performance in the Web Programming category has earned you an invitation to join our oDesk Verified Web Developers group."
I applied, as instructed and received a reply a few days later with the following;
Message from the group administrator: Thank you for your interest in joining our group. Unfortunately, at this time you do not qualify for membership.
Here's an area you can improve to qualify for membership in the future:
- Delight your clients every time.

Now being rejected to join the group isn't my real problem; my real problem is that i was openly invited to join the group and then denied with this generic, canned response. How do i not qualify for membership --why i was i invited in the first place, if i wasn't qualified?!
Sorry but i'm really annoyed at the lack of professionalism. I have 4.95 out of 5 out of 90 contracts and 80+ recorded hours -- is that not a good score? Is being highly professional not professional enough to join a group, where people have 4.7 star feedback or less in some cases?

Hi Nick,
I have the same problem. Only in my case I applied to join by myself.
Got the notification which said my application has been denied. Such an unprofessional reply!
Before joining the group I check and found that many members has got less Rating, number of Jobs and logged hours than me. So I thought I should also be in the group.
There is no requirement criteria on the group and then that reply!

By the way Nick, you should consider removing the Url of your profile from your post. Its against the rules of the forum.
For this you might get an warning message from the admins.

Posting URL of profile is not against the rules, as profile does not contain any contact info:

I got tired of waiting for an invitation so I went ahead and applied. I'll report back with the good or not-so-good news when I get a reply.

Did you have to perform any arcane rights or mysterious induction ceremonies?

Nope. They don't even have a secret handshake.

You don't have to cut your finger on some printer paper, burn a picture of Fabio in one hand, hold a laptop in the other and recite 'This is the Macbook I live by, this is the mouse I'll die by?'

When oDesk fixes the Forum so I can send you a PM, I could pass on a couple of things about the group I don't want to share with the public. You'd have to take a vow of secrecy first, naturally.
