This is a very bad new feature. oDesk is hiding candidates that are a good fit. Please let the clients/hiring managers decide. This is what I got from support: It is being automatically done by our system depending on the qualifications on the job posting you have posted. Normally, our system bases it on a certain algorithm like say for example your job posting is for web designers and the applicant may be seen by the system as a data entry specialist. Comment by Ross Danger ahead! Danger! There are two big problems with your direction and assumptions here. First, trying to guess on client and contractor *intent* will not work. Find Me a Match

As usual there is also a bug in this. I create a private job, invited 4 people all of whom matched my criteria and they were all hidden. I have been back and forth with Customer Service and they just keep telling me it is a feature. I keep telling them that they do match, they were invited, they did not apply. Just keep getting the same rote message. I gave up. It took me a day to realize they were under the hidden category. Extremely frustrating. Yeah, not a fan.

I wonder how oDesk is deciding which jobs are suitable for us. Now I have recommended jobs on my job search page which include jobs for graphic designers and php, mysql and ios app developers. None of these skills are mentioned in my profile. So much for the algorithm.

I went back to mid Oct and never saw a title or first paragraph that would relate to that post. When was this suppose to have started?

When was this suppose to have started?[/quote] There is nothing in the forum about this, I did tell CS that they should have at least made an announcement so that clients are aware, and start checking their hidden contractors. From CS: Hi Natasha, For reference on the announcement that was released on the feature wherein we will be improving the users match experience. WOW! - it's hard enough to get hired on here as is, now we find out that oDesk is hiding us if we don't have a perfect "matching" profile. I am already punished in the rankings for not having a profile picture, now this!

So does this mean that when freelancers complain that they apply for jobs and the client never responds, sometimes it will be because the client never even saw their application?

This is really frustrating for me as a contractor. They told me that they have hidden my profile due to complaints from my employers. Actually, it should be me who should complain about my previous employers who do not respond to my email messages and who do not give me any work at all when I just sit here all day wondering when I will hear from them. This is just unfair! As a provider to my family, I need regular work. But it seems that not all employers can be responsible after hiring who were promised this and that.
