payments and charges

I recently completed my first job for Upwork.  I was very excited because we really need the money.  The fee for the job was 500 but my client added a 30usd bonus as she was so happy with the results.

By my understanding, Upwork takes 20% of the first 500, leaving me with 400, and 10% of the additional 30, leaving me with 27.

400+27 = 427.

In my payments, I can see that my total earnings, after charges, are $310 USD.  I want to know where the other $117 went.  Can anyone help?  I have not withdrawn any money from Upwork thus far.

Was it one milestone or more? Did you get charged VAT? What percentage is it? Did you buy connects? What is the currency you receive your payment in?

Hi, thanks for replying.

It was split into 5 milestones.  I am not aware of purchasing any connects.  I have not seen mention of VAT anywhere.  I plan to receive the currency in USD, but have not claimed it yet as I want to resolve the issue of the missing $117 before I claim, as I wish to claim all at once since I will pay an additional charge for each claim ($30 USD I believe).

Chances are the remaining funds are under the Pending tab.

"Where is my money?""Where is my money?"

Hi, thanks for your reply.  How do I find that 'pending' tab?

I can see only this:  It shows that the full 500 has been paid, plus the 30 bonus.  Underneath are charges which I believe are the 20% commission charged from three milestone payments of 112.50 and one payment of 50, so it seems one payment of 112.50 is not yet included in my charges (or I should pay another commission I think)... so overall I'm really confused!

To add a little more data, here is my billings and earnings.  My total billings says 530.  But my total earings says I only billed 387.5, of which I have 310 to collect.

I have only done the one job, and have not claimed any payments yet.

Click on this link I provided earlier Reports > Overview

You'll then see all the different tabs, It's basically your financial dashboard and you'll find everything there, so it's worth taking the time to familiarise yourself with that page.

Your funds will be under Pending and under Available

Okay, great and thank you I found it.  Sorry I didn't notice the link you posted before.

$117 is indeed pending.  It says I must wait five days for it, which is a little inconvenient (my rent is due lol) but at least I know where it is now.

Thank you so much for your help.  Have a great day.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Upwork is not a good place to rely on when  you are cutting it close on your bills. Sometimes payments are delayed due to a problem with the client and you will end up in trouble.

The payment processes are clarified in the official help articles and you have a full transaction history visible that will enable you to see the status of all funds.

Go to your Upwork home page and click through Reports/Transaction History.\

That will give you a breakdown of earnings earned and paid out to you, fees. etc.
