over the past few weeks, I've been getting quite a lot of messages inquiring about a project on my profile but all of them want to contact through whatsapp? is this a scam of some kind? Am I in the wrong to want to keep all my messages on upwork?. Seems suspicious.
You are doing the right thing. Not only is it suspicious, but any contact off-platform before a contract is in place is a violation of the TOS and can get you banned from Upwork.
