restoring credits

hello,
I have applied for several jobs and have not been hired but my credits have not been restored although the jobs i applied for have said that they would be 'refunded' so that I could continue to apply for jobs. Currently I have 8 which isn't sufficient to apply for multiple jobs. Can you please restore the ones that could be added to the remaining 8?
Thank you. Carol

They are refunded if nobody is hired, not if you aren't hired.

Then you can simply buy more.

Thank you for contacting me. How do I buy credits?

Go to your Settings and click on Memberships and Connects

Carol:

No, that is not how this works.

Your connects will not be refunded to you.

There are indeed some job postings that state that connects will be refunded of nobody is hired for the job.

That is not the same as saying that YOU will receive your connects back if YOU are not hired.

I wonder if others new to Upwork will be surprised by this and why it is
necessary to buy credits although not making money as yet. Hmmm...

Hi Carol,

I would also suggest checking out our resources on this Thread and learning more about getting started on Upwork.
If something is still confusing, let me know. Thank you.

Nobody should be surprised by this, it is in effect for a year now.

It's very advisable to read all the material available for newbies, as well as the Terms of Service before there are any more misunderstandings.

It's necessary to buy connects because UW found it necessary to force FLs to have at least a tiny shred of skin in the game when they are bidding on jobs. When connects were free, clients posting jobs were typically buried under an avalanche of junk proposals -- copy-and-paste proposals submitted by woefully unqualified FLs. That doesn't make for a positive client experience. If the platform cannot attract and retain quality clients, then we can all pack up and go home.

Excellent information, for which thanks. It all makes sense. Appreciated.
