small deposits made into checking account

Probably a stupid question, but ask it anyway.  Does anyone know, in the beginning, because I am new to all of this, why there are two small deposits  made into my checking account from UP?  If you're going to deposit  something, let's make it  big, right LOL.

So you can verify that your checking account is really yours and you have access to the online statement.

You then have to enter the two small amounts into the verification fields.

It's done as a security measure.
