what if a client start $200 contract and close the contract after $5 work.

hey, I have an active contract of 200usd but the client added only a 5usd milestone for a correction I also asked the client what about the rest amount but the client didn't respond to that.  but I want to know if the client ends the contract after the work of 5usd is done is there any negative effect on JSS and freelancer profile?

Hi Muhammad,

The amount paid on the contract itself or changing the amount from what was the original budget doesn't necessarily affect Job Success Score negatively. That said, jobs with higher earnings have a bigger impact on your score.

Generally, it's best practice to make sure the client funds the milestone before starting work agreed for that milestone. That way, you can use the available tools to submit work and request payment and benefit from Fixed-Price Protection.

Thanks for the kind response. that means no matter if the client closed the contract after 5usd work done even if the real budget was 200$.

Don't worry, It don't efect the job success score. As you have did the contract just upto 5$ and you got paid for that. As it depend on the client if you don't want to fully complete the contract so he could do work upto some mile stones and the he can close. But it don't effect jss.

Budget does not matter. Ignore it. The budget could be "three magical unicorns."

Only thing that matters is funded escrow.

If the client funded $5 and the budget was $200... and then the freelancer was paid $5 and then the client closed the contract...

Then the client has done nothing wrong. No Upwork rules were broken.
