Hello Everyone on Upwork

Hi there! I'm new to this platform and I would love to get some expert advice on how my profile looks. Any guidance on how I can improve it would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Mykael,

The only interesting things in your profile are your portfolio and skills. Your overview/summary, which may be the most important part of your profile, is lacking.

Keep in mind that thousands of 3D artists exist on Upwork, so clients need more than just technical expertise to hire you. You have 17 years of experience and that's great, but clients often want to know the benefits of working with you and the value you bring to help meet their goals.

Here is how you can add more value to your summary:

  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback to ensure the final design meets their needs.
  • Do you provide unlimited revisions? Do you offer follow-up support after a design is delivered?
  • Since a 3D design or any graphic design is a project, mention your time management and organizational skills, and maybe mention your availability.
  • Can you highlight any 3D design projects you have worked on and your accomplishments? You mention creating designs for musicians and producers, so clients would love to hear a success story.
  • Also, talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Clients looking for 3D artists will find plenty of them on Upwork. The question is, do they have enough good reasons to choose Mykael? The information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

A few more tips to improve your profile:

1) Be sure to add Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to your skills list since you mention both in your summary. Upwork looks for synergy between your title, summary, and skills list and uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

2) I recommend adding more detailed descriptions to items in your portfolio. Clients look at images and graphics, but also want to understand the story behind them (e.g., Why was the image created? (i.e., the customer's requirement; What did you do to create it? [i.e., tools used, timeframe, etc.]) If the items are only samples (not paid work for a customer/client), your descriptions can focus on the tools used, effects you can achieve, etc. Either way, the descriptions don't have to be long.

3) Add a short job description to your job at Lunar Lytez in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork. Upwork uses keywords in job titles and descriptions to match you with relevant jobs.

4) You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking 10 to 30 days to complete. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

Hey Clark,

Thanks for looking over my profile and breaking down the details on what I need to improve, I really appreciate it. I finally decided to create a profile on a professional platform other than using social media to find clients and this is the advice I needed.

Thanks again!
