How to land a job on Upwork

@https://www.upwork.com/fl/~011a81e3bdbb54444b?mp_source=share

Attaching profile above.

Hi Everyone !

I'm struggling to make an impression with my Upwork profile and not getting many clicks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and could really use some advice. How can I improve my profile to attract more potential clients? Are there specific things I should focus on or change to stand out? I want to showcase my skills and experience effectively, but I'm not sure if I'm presenting myself in the best way.

Thank you for all the advice 🙂

Hi Thomas,

There isn't enough information in your profile to convince clients to hire you. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can meet those needs and get results. Any client looking at your profile will not find much substance to making a hiring decision.

Here is what I would do to enhance your profile:

Photo: The first thing I would do is change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Your photo isn't bad, but facing the camera is preferred. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Title: Add a space between the pipe symbol (vertical bar) and letters so that your title is easier to read: 2D Animation Filmmaker | Storyboard | Character Design

Overview/Summary: One of the most important parts of your profile is your summary, but yours lacks the information clients seek. There are thousands of 2D animators here, so clients need more than just a reference to experience to choose you.

Keep in mind that clients will see only the first 200-225 characters of your summary when searching for freelancers. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. Make sure the first two sentences speak to the client's goals (your services and the results you can achieve).

As stated above, your overall summary needs more information to convince clients to choose you. You can add more value to your summary like:

  • Tell clients precisley how much experience you have creating 2D animation films (e.g., 2 years, 5 years, 15 years, etc.)
  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback during a project to ensure the final product meets their needs.
  • Which software applications and tools do you use?
  • Do you provide unlimited edits and revisions? Do you offer follow-up support after a design/animation is delivered?
  • Since designs are projects, mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Can you highlight any 2D animation projects you have worked on and your accomplishments? Mentioning former clients is okay, but clients would rather hear about projects that might be similar to theirs.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Clients are looking for reasons to choose you and the information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

You may want to add one or two Specialized Profiles that focus on specific services or completely unrelated services. Having a specialized profile can help increase a freelancer's searchability.

Good luck!
