Proposals not getting views. Profile might be the reason.

Hello everyone,

I have an issue, none of my proposals are getting views for the last 2 weeks. And the only thing I remember changing is trying to update my profile and make it better.

I clearly messed something in the profile, and I made a mistake not saving old profile, so and now need a help to figure out what I've done wrong.

I would really appreciate if someone could take a look and give me feedback, because to be honest I am lost...

Here is the link to my profile

Thank you,

Dmitri,

The first thing I noticed ... you have a very unfriendly photo. It looks like you might be frowning. Can you get a photo where you look a bit happier?

Second, I did not understand a single word of your job title. "Expert #C/.Net/Reactjs/Nextjs.

I'm not technical at all, but don't you think it would be more useful if your job title was understandable? What about "Expert Programmer."

The next thing to say is that people who hire freelancers need to know what I call hard evidence that you are an expert who knows what he (or she) is doing.

With that in mind, none of this is useful:

Did you know that 80% of apps do not survive past first year, because vast majority of developed software doesn’t follow good architectural design or proper coding practices; it's often glued and put together just to work for now, which creates technical debt and future problems. Making it difficult to maintain, update, or add new features. What’s more, such software is bound to fail, usually at the most critical time—when you can’t afford it. This can lead to thousands in expenses to fix problems that shouldn’t be there in the first place. So, it’s paramount to hire a developer with extensive experience. Hi, My name is Dmitri."

None of that is information that clients need when they think about whom they should hire. You don't even need your name, as it is already in large, bold letters at the top of your profile. So, even, "Hi. My name is Dmitri," is not going to help you get a job.

Your profile doesn't start until this:

"I am an experienced Software Engineer with over 12 years of professional experience mostly centered around .NET, React, Next.js and Node working on large and complex projects.

After that, don't ask people to check things. ("In fact, if you check my StackOverflow profile ...")

If you send clients to another website to check your profile there, you are, essentially, making things more difficult for the client. This is not how you should treat your clients. Don't send them to another place so they can check out your profile there. Just tell them what they need to know. "I can help you finish your project, while avoiding various problems ..."

OK?

Then, it is much more effective if you wrote a profile without lists. Nobody reads lists, I promise. All those details are helpful, though, so weave them into your narrative. "While working at ______________, I learned ________________."

No lists.

Good luck.

Hi Anthony,

I have made the changes (except for profile picture, waiting for the day off to do it).

I would appreciate if you could take another look at my profile.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for your advice. I already started changing my portfolio.

What you say makes a lot of sense, I was looking at my profile as a Copy to sell my services, rather than stright telling them who I am and what I can do for them right from the very first sentence.

P.S: Will make sure to replace the picture 🙂
