Quick profile feedback for a new member

Hi everyone, I am new to upwork and to freelancing platforms in general. Could you give me a super quick profile feedback? It would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Valentina,

Welcome to Upwork.

The first thing to know about freelancing platforms like Upwork is everything should lead to you getting hired for jobs that match your skills and qualifications. Everything starts with your profile and there are a few things you can do to improve it:

1) Your profile overview/summary might be the most important part of your profile. Clients see your title (which gets their attention) and clients love visuals in portfolios, but your summary is where they attempt to understand why they should spend money to hire you.

When clients search for freelancers on Upwork, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want potential clients to see their goals (your services and success) in this small space. Mentioning your background and experience is great, but most of your summary should focus on your ability to help clients. For example, here is an introduction that immediately establishes your experience, but focuses on the client's goals:

I'm an expert digital marketer with 5+ years of experience helping businesses with Digital Marketing Campaigns, Ideation & Implementation, Influencer Marketing Management (with a focus on using discount codes as CTA), Social Media Management & Advertising, and Partnership Management.

(Now, mention your experience, but tell clients why it matters (i.e., how it benefits them))

I worked as a Marketing Manager for a beauty brand and now I run my own company--House Flipping. This professional experience allows me to play a lead role in driving growth, visibility, and engagement for your company's online presence.

I'm an expert with Shopify, Wordpress, Meta Ads Manager, Canva, Mailchimp, Google Analytics.

(Again, tell them why this should matter to them [i.e., how it helps them])

I use these tools to design and build highly effective marketing campaigns that achieve business objectives and maximize ROI.

You can modify this as you see fit, but you get the general idea--add more details that help clients understand why they should hire you. For example, clients like to hear things like:

  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback to ensure their marketing strategy meets their needs.
  • Since digital marketing campaigns are projects, mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Highlight any similar projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

2) As a digital marketer, you absolutely must have a portfolio. Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

3) Consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

You may want to add one or two Specialized Profiles that focus on specific marketing services or completely unrelated services. Having a specialized profile can help increase a freelancer's searchability.

Your skills and employment history look great.

Once you provide more details in your summary, clients will better understand the value in hiring you.

Good luck!
