Before starting a contract and making payments on Upwork, you’ll need to add a payment method to your account. Having a verified payment method shows freelancers that you’re serious about starting your project. It will also help to attract the best freelancers and allow them to start work immediately upon being hired. Check out the video and information below to learn how to set up your payment method for a complete client account.
With Upwork’s secure payment system and Payment Protection program, you don’t have to worry about paying your freelancers on time, quickly and safely. After logging into your Upwork account, click Settings in the drop-down menu in the upper right and select Add Billing Method. You can pay for your freelancer’s work in a number of ways. Watch this video to learn more about setting up the following payment methods:
If you’re adding a verified PayPal account, you’ll be taken to the PayPal site where you’ll be prompted to accept a billing agreement between Upwork and your PayPal account. Completing this step lets you quickly make payments on Upwork using your PayPal account.
When adding a credit card, you may be prompted to verify the card. To do this, we’ll apply two small charges to your card. Your card will be credited back for the two verification charges. Check your statement upon receiving these charges and enter the amounts in Verify Now in the billing and payment section in your account. You’ll need to complete the verification process before you can use this credit card for payments on Upwork.
Once you’ve verified your payment method, you’re ready to move ahead with your freelancer and get your project started.
