Agency Owners unable to Close their Agency

When attempting to close their agency, agency owners would experience an error "Exception occurred Failed to parse ODS response..."

Owners could still get their agencies closed by contacting Upwork support team. 

This issue has now been fixed and if you decide to close your agency, you should be able to do it by going to Agency context> Settings> Agency Settings and clicking the Close Agency button:

Please help me with the same. I have been trying to close my agency for a long time but I am getting this error every time and because of that, I lost one contract as the client wanted to hire individual freelancers only. I have created that agency as a solo member. Please close my agency.

Hi Valeria. Can I close an agency while having an opening contract? When closed an agency, would work history be removed as well?

Hi Brad,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would like to clarify that to be able to close your agency account you must:

• Remove all members of the agency.
• Close all contracts associated with the agency.
• Withdraw all proposals associated with the agency.
• Ensure all payments have been received and withdrawn

After that, you can close the agency by following the steps below.

1. Go to Settings > Agency Profile
2. Select Close my agency at the bottom of the page

Regarding your question about Work History. If you close the agency but keep your freelancer profile open, the agency profile and agency association will be removed from your freelancer profile. However, jobs you've completed under the agency will still continue showing under your freelancer profile Work History.
