Issues with Connects for job applications, and purchased Connects

Valued members,

We appreciate you reaching out and bringing this to our attention. We have identified issues related to Connects:

  • Some users get the notification "You don't have enough Connects to submit this proposal," but there are Connects in the account

  • Some users get this notification when submitting proposals to jobs:

Purchased Connects is not reflected in some users' accounts after purchase. Loading the Membership & Connects page reflects this error "Failed to load the current subsription details. Please try again. If the issue persists please contact Customer Support." Screenshot 2023-06-02 at 10.45.43 AM.png
Our engineers are looking into these errors and working to address the issue causing them. We'll update this thread with more information when we receive updates from the team. You may also subscribe to status.upwork.com for the latest status of the Upwork website.

We appreciate your understanding as we sort this out for you!

The same thing happens to me. I have connects but when I try to apply, it says I have no connects available. Even I can't buy or change membership. It must be some bug.

I had more than 30 connects but now I can't see them and the membership/connects history page shows some kind of errors too. I can't even bid. Help needed.

Dear Upwork Support Team,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns and provide feedback regarding the recent increase in Upwork Connects. As an active user of the platform, I believe it is crucial to share my thoughts on this matter.

First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the value that Upwork has provided in connecting freelancers like myself with clients from all around the world. The platform has been instrumental in facilitating work opportunities and enabling me to grow my freelance business. However, the recent increase in Upwork Connects has had a significant impact on my experience and, I believe, on many other freelancers as well.

While I understand that Upwork needs to make adjustments to ensure its sustainability and growth, the substantial doubling of the Connects to apply new project it created financial constraints for freelancers like myself. As a result, it has become increasingly challenging to submit proposals and compete for projects that align with my skills and expertise.

Moreover, the Connects increase has inadvertently led to a decrease in the quality of proposals being submitted. Many freelancers are now compelled to submit generic proposals or take shortcuts to save Connects, ultimately devaluing the overall proposal process. This affects the reputation and professionalism of the platform, making it more challenging for clients to find the right talent and freelancers to showcase their abilities effectively.

I strongly believe that these suggestions, along with active dialogue and collaboration between Upwork and its user community, can lead to positive changes that benefit both freelancers and clients.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and the opportunity to share my concerns and feedback. Upwork has been an integral part of my professional journey, and I genuinely hope that these suggestions will contribute to its ongoing success. I look forward to hearing from you and engaging in a constructive discussion about this issue.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I just found some proposal needs 16 connects to apply. That is insane. And what is more alarming that somehow someone applied using more than 50 connects in same jobs. So either you Bid with 16 connects and have lesser chance to get viewed or use 50 or whatever connects to sit on top.
I am not pretty much sure what's the big picture behind this. But, this is really become difficult to Us the Freelancers.

Hi Abu

Have you heard of Freelance MVP? It's an Upwork advice website by Evan Fisher. He is the number 1 expert on Upwork. He doesn't get anything from Upwork, it's his very own website. He states that it's best to get your profile and proposal letters improved rather than the amount of connects that are bidding on jobs. Search his name.

I experienced a similar problem, however the Upwork crew has now resolved it. We are finally ready to go, but certain jobs now indicate 16 connections for a specific work.
