Asking a freelancer some questions

I don't understand. I am considering hiring a crowdfunding specialist to assist our nonprofit.  All I want to do right now is to ask a couple of questions to a couple of freelancers that I saw in the system.  But Upwork is asking me to create a job.  I'm not at that point yet. I need information first. How do I contact someone without creating a job posting??

You don't need to hire somebody to do the complete project.

Just create a job posting stating that you want to ask quesions and hire a freelancer for a short period of time, for consultation.

If you do that, then you will be able to ask questions with any freelancer who responds to the job posting.

You might even be able to ask a few questions for free, if they're about the freelancer's qualifications and readiness to do the work.

YOU have complete control over whether or not you hire anybody. If you don't hire anyone, there is no way to be billed.

Thank you very  much! That's very helpful!

Also if you said you had specific freelancers in mind you can invite them to apply for the job you create.

IMO, if you are asking questions from freelancers and those questions concern ANY aspect of your job, (including anything about hiring a crowdfunding specialist) you need to pay those freelancers for that information. That's considered a consultation and consultations should be paid for.
