Hey Guys,
I am Ahmad. I have a question to ask, My college friend Faizan is working with 3 clients on Upwork, He also has some clients from other platforms. Due to a lot of workloads, he is unable to manage work.
He wants to refer a couple of his clients to me since we both work as Amazon specialists. As both clients he gets on Upwork, so can he ask clients to end their contract with him and start working with me?
*If he can ask to end 2 of his projects, Do they both need to hire me on Upwork or I can work with them without Upwork?

Hi Tahir,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I would like to confirm that your friend can recommend you to their clients. They need to ask clients to close their contracts with them and create new contracts with you. However, please note that you are not allowed to take work outside of Upwork. Please check this page for more information that can help you stay in compliance with Upwork's Terms of Service.

That's a good question. I'm ignoring that part: Do they both need to hire me on Upwork or I can work with them without Upwork? because you should know that you can't do that and that it can get you suspended real quick. I'll pretend you didn't ask, ok?
A freelancer can refer another freelancer, but the question is, at what point of the process. When you receive an invitation but are too busy, for example, you have that function to refer somebody else. But you are talking about active contracts. To me it's more a client management question - will the client be happy to end a contract and work with an unproven other person? Worst case, your friend could risk really bad feedback as a result.

My friend hasn't asked clients to end the contract as of now, I am just making sure I don't breach any Terms & Conditions of Upwork. That's why I asked if I can work without Upwork. Now, from your response, I understand I have to work with both of them on Upwork.
Secondly, regarding Bad feedback from the client, I have already proven record on Fiverr and have a portfolio. So, I think that will not be an issue. The only thing I was trying to make sure was, My friend and I don't breach any T&C's of Upwork. My friend by asking the client to close the contract and referring me to his clients. And myself by making agreement off Upwork(which is clearly no, I will start contract on Upwork)
Just can you help me with 1st part of the question? "The only thing I was trying to make sure was, My friend and I don't breach any T&C's of Upwork. My friend by asking the client to close the contract and referring me to his clients".

I can't help with this, maybe a moderator can.
My concern about feedback was not feedback for you, but for your friend. Maybe his clients want to keep working with him, not somebody else, and will have negative feelings about him suggesting to end a contract, which they might express in their feedback. The risk is to your friend, not to you, at this stage. Do you want to do that to him?
