Caution

Good evening to all, an ad circulating on the site for the translation of a book into several languages with an hourly rate of $200 to $250 is the employer **Edited for Community Guidelines**, the contact person in my case was **Edited for Community Guidelines**, he asked that the work be done outside the site and that I send him the correct credit information for payment , **Edited for Community Guidelines** is also mentioned. The company's alleged e-mail address is**Edited for Community Guidelines**. This is not a question, but a friendly warning. I'm a new clan and if I hadn't been informited about potential scrams and the site's policy, I would have settled.

I'm glad you didn't fall for it. I hope nobody else believes that translation pays $250/ hour.

I still like to believe this is going to happen in my next life, though 😄

Also, they are very convincing in communication. I'm very sorry that their personal information cannot be visible, so that someone does not accidentally make a mistake. The story is that the price is such because of the pre-exclusive deadline (3 days) in which the book must be finished,

That's a nice fairytale, but if you take all the hints and sum them up, you will see the evident scam.

P.s. you did not ask me but I will tell you nonetheless, since you are a translator like me. It's hard to believe you are a native speaker/bilingual in five languages. Choose one or two language pairs and stick to them, a client would not believe you can master perfectly five languages. And choose your fields of specialisation as well. Best of luck.

I appreciate Your advice, but I have to reveal something to You. In my country, we really use several languages and look at them as one (ex Yugoslavia). Considering that I come from a mixed family, I actually speak each of the mentioned languages at a native level, except for English, which I learned at school.I didn't mean it to look unprofessional.

It makes sense now, and knowing so many languages thanks to your family is a treasure. Still, be careful. The translation sea is full of sharks.

That's just pure nonsense. A serious publisher will be able to handle timelines and will not run in desperation to upwork because suddenly everything is so urgent he pays four times more than he has to.

ALL of the explanations the scammers give are ludicrous.

I totally agree with You

Hello I'm new to Upwork as well and my last 2 potentials both needed me to pay a registration fee via PayPal so their accounting system could verify me.

Do they smell the "new blood?"

Yes, they do. They take advantage of the general lack of knowledge of new users, and it seems like their business is pretty lucrative. Take care.
