Clients not responding AFTER initial contact/replying to my bid

Hello everybody. Although I signed up on this platform years ago, I just recently started to get into it and applied for work. I'm having an issue that seems strange to me. After submitting a few bids, I got a response from this client saying that she liked my application letter and asked me if I was interested in working with her. I of course said yes and that I am ready to start asap. Then bam, no response for two weeks. I sent a follow-up message hoping there was no confusion on my part, but still no response a month later. I thought it was that one person, but another client did the same thing by responding, asking if I was interested, asked a follow-up question, and then stopped responding. My responses were simply, "Yes I can do this", "yes I am interested" etc.

Is this common here? Am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep, it is common here. Maybe client hired someone else or not need this job anymore. Just forgot and move forward.

Ok that makes me feel a little better, but I would prefer if the client did not respond at all than doing something like this. Thanks.

If that's any consolation, this client has seen your offer as worth considering. So you're making great offers. ๐Ÿ™‚

What are the issues? I will advise go to Upwork Academy and take learning paths

Yes. I agree with this. The academy has helped me understand certain terms and best practices well. Highly recommend taking up some learning paths (101's maybe).

Keep in mind that until you accept a contract, you are STILL selling your services. Actually, even after you sign, you can continue to sell. Of course, clients may often contact more than 1 freelancer for the same job. They may have another freelancer they prefer but are in some difficult negotiations with. Many things can happen. Don't assume that you have the job just because they contact you; continue up with your pitch and keep selling your value. Encourage them to get on the phone with you after the first message, and send them a video message... imagine you're competing with the best of the best. Good luck.

Samething thing happened to me. Well the client at least should show the decency to reply to the messges they recieve from us. Its just stupid.
