Close Active candidacy

Hi Upwork Forum, If I submit the proposal for a job and then the client replies, it shows as active candidacy in my messages. However, if for some reason the client stops replying, should I close the message or project. Does Upwork punish for multiple active candidacy?

No punishment. It's a step closer in getting hired on one of them in the future, so don't close/withdraw them unless you don't want to work on that task anymore. Anyway, in case that the job it's not closed or the client hired someone else it will be archived after  1 month  or so, automaticaly.
