Concerned a job is a scam

Is there a moderator I could chat with to see if my fears are true? The money is good so I’m tempted, but I don’t want to get involved with anything that’s not legit.

There’s no Google hangouts. It’s just that the contacted ME inviting me to submit a proposal. The money sounds good, but there’s an employment contract from Hong Kong, and I need to set up free accounts on a couple of websites in order to “test” payments. I’m afraid this is putting liability for moving potentially illegal funds onto me. Is my gut correct?

New profiles are targets for scammers - it's rare to get invites with a new profile. It sounds scammy - I would run, run away. You have to ask yourself why they can't set up these "free" accounts and do the "testing" themselves.

Hopefully a mod will come along to advise you some more, but I guarantee it's most certainly a scam. In the meantime, you might want to do some reading:

If you're new and they're asking you to interview on Google Hangouts ... it's most certainly a scam.

Scam. Run!

Thank you and that’s a very good point. Ill definitely stay away from this. I’ll also check out the resources you linked. Have a great day!

An "employment contract" is fishy in itself. This is a freelancing platform, not a job recruiting platform. The term is used to create a false sense of security.

Be wary of all unsolicited invitations before you have a good history on upwork as a general rule.

Funny how good the pay is when it's a scam. Hmm.

There is no pay when it's a scam.

re: "Is there a moderator I could chat with to see if my fears are true?"

Moderators don't tell you if a job is legitimate or not.

If you have questions, you can discuss the job with us and we'll tell you.

If you are experienced, you can identify scam jobs within a second, without any help.
