Hi Sofia,

You can complete the W-8BEN form under Settings> Tax Info, which purpose is to

confirm you're not a US taxpayer. You can use your own legal name as it appears in your passport or other official documents.

Please note that Upwork is applying and remitting VAT in case a freelancer from the EU doesn't provide a valid VAT number. You'll need to consult a local tax advisor regarding any charges that might apply to the services you provide to your clients.

You can find payment methods available in your country by going to your Settings> Get Paid and clicking Add a Payment method. Check out this help article for more information.

Thank you!

Dear Bojan,

thank you for the prompt and informative reply.

You mentioned that  Upwork is applying and remitting VAT in case a freelancer from the EU doesn't provide a valid VAT number. However Albania is not in the EU. Therefore my question is that for an non EU  country how will the VAT will be calculated and applied?

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,

Sofia Guda

Hi Sofia,

That help article lists the countries where Upwork is currently able to assess VAT on digital services provided by Upwork.

You may want to talk to a local tax adviser about VAT in your country and about ways to report your Upwork income to tax authorities in general.
