Hello John,

Up-work Charge commission immediately on the jobs done as you got the payment from a client.

For Job Done:

The steps are:

1. You receive the payment in "REVIEW" tab after submitting your work to client. In this tab client has opportunity to get back his money if he is not satisfied from your services.
2. If all things got perfect then your payment will proceed to “PENDING" tab here Upwork will deduct its commission.
3. Then finally you will receive your payment in Available tab. From where you can withdrew your payment.

If you want to Upgrade your membership:

Then Yes up-work will charge $10 per month

I appreiciate the information.

Can I ask you another question? I am looking for a somewhat easy job to submit a propsal for in order to learn the Upwork process and ease into a more complex job. I tried to submit a proposal for an Accounts Payable Administrator job. When I tried to submit a proposal I was sent to a screen saying 2 connects were required. What does that mean?

 "Connects" is a term Upwork uses like "tokens" or "credits" that determines how many proposals you are allowed to submit. Each month you get 60 connects. (If you have a paid membership you get slightly more, but don't bother with that.) Each job costs 2 connects to apply for (maybe there are rare jobs that cost more or fewer than 2, but I never see them). So basically you can apply to an average of one job per day. If you use up all 60 connects, you have to wait until the start of the next month to get your next batch of 60.

So if you continue through that screen you got to and submit your proposal for that job, you'll have 58 connects left available to use this month, meaning you can try for another 29 jobs.

Hi John, Thanks for reaching out. Are you referring to your membership and connects or to your earnings? I can confirm that you have connects on your account. Please let us know if you are still seeing 'zero connects'.

Hello John,

Would like to tell you that under free membership plans you will get 60 connects, and each time you apply to a job 2 connects are required. So it simply means that you can apply 30 jobs in a month. And then you have to wait for next month to get your new 60 connects.

If you wish to apply more than 30 jobs in a month then you can buy connects.

No.

There's an optional paid plan for $10 a month, but few freelancers think the modest benefits it provides are worth even $10. I'm sure there are certain freelancers in certain circumstances who are exceptions, but I especially see no reason someone who is new should bother with it.
