Freelancing as a main source of income?

Can freelancing be a major source of Income in the "work from home" trend era?

I certainly think so—if you work smart, at least.

I recently quit my salary job and became a full-time freelancer. I now make far more than I did as an employee and have the opportunity to make even more if I manage my time well. The real question is, is it sustainable?

With no paid leave, public holidays, or paid sick days, freelancing full-time can quickly end in disaster. Those who seek to embody the 'work from home' trend need to embody every aspect of a business—including finances, client management, and HR.

Budget ahead to ensure you have enough saved to take a holiday at least once a year. Communicate with your clients to keep them in the loop about your leave, manage their expectations, and get any essential work done early. Manage your time effectively so that you're able to take sick leave when needed without compromising your cash flow.

In my opinion, if you manage to do the above, then freelancing will serve you better than any previous employer did (I'm sure this is industry-dependent, though).
