If I'm in Australia and have engaged an upworker in the Phlippines, has Upwork automatically charged me GST?

Upwork charges the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to freelancers and agencies in Australia, unless these freelancers and agencies provide a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) and acknowledge that they're registered for GST. GST will be assessed on fees for services provided by us, not on fees freelancers and agencies charge their clients for services they provide their clients. You may read more about it here.
