Hello Sohel,

I think you have good content in your profile, but I would reconsider the opening lines in your overview/summary:

celgins_0-1682794673461.png

The 100% and other words probably won't mean much the client if they are seeing this in searches. You might be better off using that first line to say something like: "Highly effective Lead Generation expert with 5 years of experience in B2B lead generation and prospecting. I help small to medium-sized companies increase the number of leads in their sales pipeline by using a powerful, low-cost outbound lead generation method that grows sales."

Everything in your summary after that  is fine.

Also, you should add short job descriptions for each job in your employment history.

After that, just keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters.

Good luck!

Sohel,

Lists do not draw people in. They do not hold their attention. They do not show your personality, which is half the reason people hire others.

Look at it this way: If you had no skills, but I liked you, I would hire you and train you. If you had a lot of skills, but I didn't like you, I would not hire you. Why? Because I don't like you.

So it is paramount that your persnality come through in your profile. Lists are very easy to write. They don't demonstrate your expertise; they only demonstrate your abillty to write a list.

Lots of people use lists, but they are far less effective than wriitng a narative that reveals something about who you are.

Hi,

I am new on Upwork and I have more than 5 years of experience in recruiting and Business development. I am continuously applying for jobs. I have done projects with big companies like Growlabs, experfy, and invoice simple Information unlimited inc. But I have not received a single message on Upwork. I mentioned my previous samples or projects in the cover letter. Please help me. I want to start my freelance career.

Thanks

Hi Waqar,

Your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public if you want us to see it and provide feedback.

Also, keep in mind that when your profile is set to private, it is not shown in search results when clients search for freelancers; they will only see your profile if you submit a proposal to their job. You can still submit jobs, but I suggest you make your profile public.

Hi, I'm new to Upwork and applied for many jobs but didn't succeed in getting the job. Can you please review my profile.

https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~01200043884bdb3709

Hi Sijal,

There was a review of your profile in response to your message yesterday Apr 28, 2023 01:41:42 PM. The review was short, but was completed on Apr 28, 2023 03:59:15 PM. It should be on page 21 of this thread.

No worries, though. I basically said that I think everything looks good in your profile. The summaries in your main profile and two specialized profiles are good. Your skill categories are good and your portfolio is excellent. You also have a good project catalog, great certifications, and relevant jobs in your employment history.

I think you are presenting a very good profile to clients. Unfortunately, logo design and graphic design are very competitive skill areas on Upwork, and it will be difficult to win jobs. Just keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job:

1) Acknowledge the job you are applying for.

2) Highlight your qualifications.

3) Address specific points in the job by explaining how you can solve their problem

4) Request the client reach out to discuss or request an Upwork Zoom call to go through their requirements.

It may take some time, but you will eventually win more jobs!

Good luck!

Hi, I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for your time to review my profile.

Hi Andrea,

I just joined Upwork community and will be very thankful if anyone could go through my profile.

Warm regards,

Abdur Rehman

Hi Abdur,

I looked through your profile and you make an okay start with filling in your profile, summary, skills and employment history. However, your summary needs to solid evidence that you're the financial analyst a client would want. Clients care about getting results and you have to tell them how your services will benefit them.

You say that you can contribute to corporate financial goals and objectives using your extensive expertise, but almost all certified accountants will say this. You have to give potential clients your value proposition. The value proposition is what differentiates you from other financial analysts. In other words, why would they choose you? Your summary is a chance for you to convince them.

I think you should revise your summary and start with more impact. Maybe something like:

I'm a highly accomplished Chartered Certified Accountant with more than 7 years of experience leading finance, audit and tax operations in manufacturing and services organizations. I specialize in helping businesses with their Financial Reporting, Receivables/Payables, Budgeting, Working Capital, Business Planning & Analysis, Corporate and Taxation.

My most important goal is to become a one-stop finance, business planning and accounting solution for your business. I can accomplish that by working closely with you to review your business documention and data to get your financial records up-to-date. My support will recognize and resolve any discrepancies, and keep your finances and reports healthy and accurate, and ensure you are 100% prepared to meet an audit.

You should also include a portfolio to showcase your financial management prowess. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills. Maybe you could add a few samples like a valuation report and analysis, a balance sheet, QuickBooks screenshots, profit/loss statement, etc.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications and skills by writing great cover letters. In your cover letters, always make sure you create a custom response based on the client's job. Focus on the client's specific points in their job description; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their requirements.

Hi Loveth,

Welcome to Upwork.

I reviewed your profile and you definitely need to add more content. Right now, you are not giving potential clients enough information to make a decision on hiring you. Your title, Virtual Assistant and skill categories are fine, but you need to add more content to your summary that focuses on a potential client's needs. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them.

Most freelancers either do not have the time or will not make the time to provide mentoring. So, much of what is required to be a successful freelancer must be learned on your own.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should do the following:

Hi Team. My Upwork profile is not so new but I just started working on it a month ago. Then for the last 2 days I just submitted 2 proposals in which I still haven't received any responses yet. Could someone from your team check my profile and let me know what are the areas of improvement? Feedback is highly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Rachelle,

The Upwork Moderators work as a team to provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the Forums, but they do not provide profile reviews.

Just a note: two proposals is not a lot in the world of Upwork freelancing. Many freelancers have to send dozens and dozens of proposals before landing their first jobs.

I reviewed your profile and there are a few things you can improve. First, your summary has good background, skill and personality information, but most clients will skip over that. Clients would rather hear about how your services will get results for them.

You should add more information in your summary that focuses on a potential client's needs. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them.

For example, you say:

  • "I have had the privilege of working with top-tier companies in both the USA and Australia."

Why does this matter? You could say: "I have had the privilege of working with top-tier companies in both the USA and Australia. This allows me to assist my clients that have customer service needs in different countries and timezones by working across borders and cultures, which reduces the costs associated with managing multiple international projects".

  • "As a skilled professional, I possess strong typing abilities with a speed of 45 words per minute or more."

Why does this matter? You could say: "I can accurately type 45+ words per minute (wpm), which reduces the time it takes to produce important documents (i.e., schedules, meeting minutes, etc.) and respond to customer inquiries (e.g., emails, chat support, etc.)"

Everything in your summary that says, "Rachelle is great!" or "Rachelle has this skill/experience" should be followed with a statement that answers the question, "How does Rachelle's greatness and experience benefit the client?"

Also, you should add more skills to your skill categories, but only if they are relevant to the customer services you provide.

Finally, add short job descriptions to each job listed in your employment history.

Thank you, Andrea, for creating this opportunity for new freelancers like myself to receive feedback on our Upwork profile. As a new freelancer, I have been struggling to secure my first job on the platform. I would greatly appreciate it if an experienced freelancer could review my profile and provide feedback to help me improve my chances of landing a job. My profile visibility is currently set to public. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

Waqar,

I reviewed your profile and have a few suggestions:

Overview/Summary: You have good information in your summary. However, two years of experience as a front-end developer isn't a lot. I suggest removing the 2 years and revise the first paragraph to say something like:

"Extremely resourceful Front-End Developer with in-depth experience building front-end functionality and web UI/UX designs. I specialize in creating visually stunning and highly functional websites that engage users and deliver results. Let's bring your website vision to life today!"

Also, in your Front-End Development specialized profile, remove the first line: "Engaging & Responsive Websites: Your Frontend Developer." This wastes space since it basically repeats the title and you want to make an impact with the first few sentences in your summaries.

Portfolio: Add more items to your portfolio. Clients will expect to see more from a front-end developer that specializes in UI/UX design. The online banking website is good, but it essentially shows the same interface, and more samples will give clients more information about your skills/qualifications.

Employment History: Add short job descriptions for each job.

Hi Andrea G!

I am a software Quality assurance engineer and I'm new to Upwork and haven't had success in getting a job yet. I'm unsure if it's due to my profile or my proposal approach. Could you please review my profile and provide feedback on areas for improvement?

looking forward to you for kind feedback

Hi Umar,

Andrea is one of several Upwork Moderators. The moderators provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the Forums, but they do not provide profile reviews.

A couple of things:

1) The first thing you should do is change your Photo. Your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

2) Your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public so we can see it.

Hi Tahir,

There was a review of your profile on Apr 21, 2023 04:31:55 AM in response to the message you posted on Apr 20, 2023 02:17:50 AM (page 16 of this thread).

I basically said that I read through your profile and everything looks good for now. I do not see any huge problems. You do a good job of telling the client how your services will get them results (re: visually appealing website with all the features and functionality you need to succeed online). Also, your skill categories and portfolio are good, so I think Upwork is matching you with relevant jobs.

You might want to capitalize the first letter of each word in your main profile title: Expert Wordpress Web Designer and Developer. Also, add short job descriptions for each job in your employment history.

Hi Nimrod,

Welcome to Upwork!

I reviewed your profile and I have a few suggestions that might help improve it:

Overview/Summary: The first problem with your summary is the lack of information. You are not giving clients enough information to make a decision about hiring you.

The second issue is the content you already have; it's all about you and only talks about your experience and achievements. Talking about your experience is okay, but you should focus on a potential client's needs when writing your summary. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. The first two sentences are important because the client will read them first, so you should write something that is strong and impactful.

Third, I generally tell freelancers with less than two (2) years of experience to remove any references to the timeframe. Instead, talk about having experience, but don't mention 2 years since this isn't a huge number, and you are competing with developers with 10+ years of experience.

With that, I would revise your summary by speaking to the clients first and telling them how you can help meet their needs. I would also remove any irrelevant information and add more that focuses on potential clients. Maybe somthing like:

I'm a highly versatile Front-End Developer who create dynamic and engaging web applications that provide a great user experience. I specialize in building dynamic web applications using a variety of technologies including Angular, TypeScript, and Tailwind. I am passionate about solving complex problems and I take a creative approach to developing applications that meet my clients needs.

One of my biggest achievements has been working on an online casino project. I was responsible for implementing the front-end components, including the cashier, and several landing pages. I can build similar components such as dashboards, admin panels, and other customized tools for your business. I work closely with you to understand your needs and timeslines, which ensures I complete the project on time and within budget.

----------What can I build for you?----------

✦ Custom, dynamic web and mobile applications that help your business generate leads

✦ Websites with integrated tools like chatbots that help maintain strong customer relationships

✦ (... provide more here)

-----------How does this benefit you?------------

✔ High-quality work delivered on-time

✔ Regular communication to keep you updated on the progress of your project

✔ Long-term relationship

✔ Flexibility to work on any project no matter the size and complexity

Let's talk about your projects and how I can help bring your ideas to reality!

Skills: Be sure you have all of the relevant skill categories that match the services you provide. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Employment History: Add short job descriptions for each job in your employment history.

Hello,
I have an old profile but I come here for my future. Can anyone review my profile and advise me on how I can improve my profile and get the job on it?

Hello Ghulam Yaseen,

I reviewed your profile and I think you should revise your summary to talk more about how you can meet the client's needs. Right now, you talk a lot about your experience, your proficiency, and your skills, but you never talk much about how this will benefit a potential client.

Overview/Summary:  Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. Here is an example where you correctly speak to the client:

You say: "I have gained extensive experience in optimizing product listings for these popular e-commerce platforms."

You tell the client: "My proficiency in these areas has helped businesses of various sizes to maximize their online sales by reaching a wider audience and converting more leads into customers."

This lets clients see the results they get from your experience. Other areas in your summary should do the same thing. Every time you say, "I'm experienced with..." tell the client how that experience will help them. In some cases, you can simply rephrase what you already have. For example:

  • You say: "My experience in the product listing and uploading includes working with a variety of products across different industries, including fashion, electronics, beauty, and home goods."

  • Tell the client:This experience allows me to offer you a more diverse set of solutions that will help your products stand out, no matter the industry."

  • You say: "Moreover, I understand the importance of search engine optimization (SEO) in driving traffic to product listings."

  • Tell the client: "Therefore, I can better optimize your product titles, descriptions, and keywords to ensure that your listings are easily discoverable by potential buyers."

Also, remove the greeting at the beginning of your summary: "Hello, Let's meet with Ghulam Yaseen."

Portfolio: Add more items to your portfolio to showcase your skills and demonstrate your experience. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills. Also, be sure to select skill categories for each item in your portfolio and provide a short description of the item.

Skills: Since you have a profile from a few years ago, you may want to take a look at it and update the skill categories to make sure they are current. From time to time, Upwork will update the specialties and skills (i.e., rename them, merge them with similar skills, etc.), and freelancers rarely notice the changes.

It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can choose to buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Hi Adamu,

Success on Upwork can be difficult for freelancers who provide data entry and lead generation services. There are hundreds of thousands of freelancers providing the same services, so getting jobs is always a challenge.

You have good information in your profile. Here are a few tips to help improve a few things:

First, remove the greeting and the Rising Talent from your main profile and both specialized profiles. Clients can see your Rising Talent badge and the greeting takes up too much space. The first few lines in your summary are important because they client sees this first, and you want to being your summary by providing good information--not a greeting. (See screenshot).

celgins_0-1682949027943.png

Next, refer to your skill areas in stead of being a freelancer. We are all freelancers, so instead of saying: "I’m a full-time Professional Freelancer..." say "I’m a full-time Data Entry and Lead Generation Specialist" or "I'm a full-time Data Entry Specialist..."

The rest of the information in your summary is okay.

Your skills, portfolio, and project catalog are good. However, you may want to add more skill categories to your skills list, but only if they are relevant to the services you provide. Also, you should capitalize the first letter of each word in your job title in employment history: (i.e.,  Social Media Advertiser)

Good luck!

I am sending proposals almost daily, but not getting any new jobs
Not even a single job this year. please suggest me some tips to optimize my profile and also proposal tips.

Ahmad,

I don't know what you're doing for proposals, but I'm not a big fan of your profile page. For one, I don't know why people start out with a bunch of rhetorical questions ... "Are you looking for an SEO expert?" Why do you bother asking these questions? Don't you think people looking at your profile already  know they're looking for an SEO expert? Why else wouild they be looking at your profile? It's like walking into a shoe store and someone comes up to you and says, "Are you looking for a quality shoe?" Do you think the shopper is stupid? Why else would they walk into a shoe store?

Then, there are all those lists of programs and skills you say you possess. Do you think people read those lists? I don't. Lists are boring. They don't give the reader a chance to get to know you. People hire people, not lists of applications. That's how I see it.

Not only that, but you go on and on and on. The longer you go with a profile the more it looks like you don't have confidence in yourself. If you went to buy a car and the salesman just kept talking and talking and talking and talking, pretty soon you would think "there must be something wrong with this car. Otherwise the salesman would not feel he has to talk my ears off."

Again, I don't know what kinds of proposals you are writing, but I stopped looking forr work two years ago and two months ago I started looking for work again. I've been getting job offers left and right. The pickier I am the more offers I get. So people are clearly hiring.

For your profile, I would recommend a narrative style that lets people get to know you. I would recommend you mention some of the results your clients can expect, which your profile page so far does not do. I would recomend you write more about your clients, which you seem to skip over. What problems do your clients face? If you can name their problems, they will think you understand them. If you prove to them you understand them, they will want to hire you.

You should also have writing samples in your portfolio. That is considered a basic necessity.

HI Andrea,

I am experienced Electrical Engineer with diversified experience in technical Writing as per IEC standards. Although there are not much opportunities on Upwork for this category, and I have successfully completed my 1st job with good earnings.

I want my profile to be reviewed by experienced freelancers so that I can incorporate any suggested improvements.

Thanks & Regards,

Muhammad Fahad.

celgins
Community Member

Hi Muhammad Fahad,

Welcome to Upwork.

You are right--not a lot of electrical engineering opportunities, but there may be some. Let's focus on your supply chain services and your profile. There are a few things you should change:

Overview/Summary: First, remove the first line (see screenshot below). Next, remove any mention of being "new to Upwork." Clients do not care if you are new to Upwork; they only care if you can meet their requirements and get results.

celgins_1-1682949846192.png

After that, revise your summary to speak to how you can meet the client's needs. Remove any mention of compensation, and talk more about how your services will benefit the client and/or solve their problems. For example, your summary could start like this:

Highly skilled Supply Chain professional with more than 10 years of experience developing solutions material and product management that drive sound business. With a masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Supply Chain Management, I can help your business by creating a supply chain management strategy that increases efficiency and speed, and ensures your products are delivered on-time worldwide.

I specialize in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Operations, Warehousing and Inventory Management, demand planning, defining purchasing trends, inventory ordering, and sales forecasting. Through all of these  experiences, I can balance safety, cost management and business growth and optimize your warehousing and shipping functions. I also specialize in Quality Control of Material including detailed testing as per international standards and agreed terms, and provide detailed logistics reports.

The services that I can provide are:

(...the information after this is okay)

Portfolio: Add more items to your portfolio to showcase your skills and demonstrate your experience. More specifically, add some supply chain/logistics items. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills. Maybe you could add a few inventory management application screens, a service level agreement sample, a forecasting spreadsheet, a graphic showing a simple logistics process, etc.

Be sure to make the same updates to your specialized profiles as well. The thing to rememeber is: if you tell clients about your experience and how great you are, also tell them why it matters (i.e., how you will use that experience and greatness to help them).

Good luck!

Hi Fari,

Andrea is one of several Upwork Moderators. She provides valuable information to freelancers and moderates the Forums, but she doesn't provide profile reviews.

I looked through your profile and I have a few suggestions to help improve your overview/summary. Your summary has good information, but it's mostly about you and your experience. Clients expect to read about your experience, skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. In other words, you have to give potential clients an idea about the results they will get if they choose you. Maybe you can focus more on the client’s needs by answering questions a client might ask. For example:

  • "My company needs a new office space, but we are not sure about the design or layout. What type of designs can Fari create to help me choose?" You answer could be: "I can take your ideas for residential or commercial buildings and create realistic 3D models and renders that reveal every aspect of the structure, and allows you to view the building as-is before making a final decision."

  • "Can Fari provide recommendations for designing our restaurant, clinic, library, or other structure?" Your answer could be: "I apply critical thinking, observation, and planning to each project, and experiment with different concepts. This process delivers a better architectural design because I work closely with you to combine your needs and expectations with my experience and industry best-practices to produce a realistic architecture visualization."

  • "My company is really busy, so how much time will Fari spend developing a 3D render and how often will she stay in contact with me to keep me updated?"

  • "There are several architectural / structural engineers out there... why should I choose Fari to design a our commercial building?"

Your answers to questions like these can help a client better understand why they should hire you, what they will get, and how it will benefit them.

Your video, portofilo, skill categories, project catalog, certifications, and employment history are good!
