The community is full of experienced Upwork freelancers who are passionate about helping others. These users will review your profile and provide feedback based on their experience.

If you’re interested in requesting help, make sure your profile visibility is not set to “Private” and then reply below.

We’re excited to see how Community members can continue to help each other to grow!

Hello Chuks,

I like the approach in your profile. Your overview/summary is really good. However, I suggest removing the first line in call caps: "PRESIDENT'S CLUB SALES AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT LEADER". Why? Because the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. Since you have a very small window of opportunity to grab their attention, there is no need to repeat your title in the first sentence. I think your summary should start with: "Award winning sales and business development leader..." because it is strong and gets attention.

The only other suggestion I have is to create a Project Catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged business development service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

The other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any areas that need improvement or any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Hello Adebowale,

I think your profile is fine. I do not see any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

You should add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Everything else looks good.

Hi Liran,

I looked at your profile and I think it looks good and your overview/summary has good content. The only nitpicky suggestion I have is to use the acronym "AI" instead of "Ai" since "AI" is accurate and more recognizable to clients.

The other areas of your profile look fine. I do not see any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Hi Nicole,

Welcome to Upwork.

Good start to your profile. However, I think you need to refocus your overview/summary on social media management. Meaning, you should tell prospective clients which social media services you provide and how it helps them. Your summary mixes in some data entry content, but I think clients will respond better if you focus only on social media. For example, I suggest starting your summary like this:

I'm a creative Social Media Manager with proven success engaging audiences, and creating social media graphics and captions for brand exposure. I can help you elevate your online presence, generate positive leads, and boost your ad revenues using a proven management strategy. I will help you better understand Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Threads and other social media platforms and their current trends, and how to maximize them for business growth.

As a social media manager and virtual assistant, I am completely familiar with the social media space, social communities, conversations, and trends, and I can help you create engaging content that aligns with your business goals and brings new ideas to your team. I am highly creative with a strong eye for detail and a passion for visual aesthetics, and I can ensure your social media footprint is vibrant and keeps the attention of your audience.

I think you should add more items to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients will expect to see more social media samples.

You may want to add one or two Specialized Profiles that focus specifically on data entry or any other skills not directly related to social media management. This way, prospective clients will not be confused about the services you offer.

Hello Akoni,

Capitalize the first letter of each word i your title to help it stand out: Customer Service Representative | Customer Support Specialist.

Also, remove the first line in your overview/summary: "EXPERIENCED CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE" since it repeats your title and is unnecessary.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to get your profile setup is to go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hi Soneydy,

I like the start to your profile. Your overview/summary gets to the point, but you need to add more information that tells clients the customer service support you can provide and how your customer service skills will benefit them.

You also need to add up to 15 skills in your skills list, but only if they are relevant to your customer service support work.

Next, add a portfolio to provide samples to clients to see.

Hello Hafsa,

Welcome to Upwork.

Since your skill area is specific to healthcare, your profile needs to explain how you can help clients. Meaning, you have to tell clients how you can help them through your dentistry work.

Your overview/summary sounds like a prospective employee looking for a job or employer within a medical/dental organization. As a freelancer, you are running a business that provides services to other businesses (clients), and most clients are expecting to hire a freelancer to provide services; not an employee to provide a job.

With that, I think you should refocus your summary by telling prospective clients exactly which services you can provide. A lot of medical professionals, including dentists, offer a variety of services like planning, research, writing, etc., and you have to explain this to clients. For example, you could say something like:

I am a dentist and medical professional specializing in oral health and patient care. With a deep understanding of dental sciences and a commitment to excellence, I write dental care research articles, web content, and provide literature reviews on oral health. I can provide well-researched, expertly written oral healthcare blogs, social media posts focused on oral health, e-books, dental care plans, or any topic in the dental health niche.

I focus on a wide range of dental and oral health services including teeth cleaning, orthodontics, gum disease treatments, medication usage, and emergency dental care. I can write about endodontics and cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, braces, inlays/onlays, dental fillings, and treatments for TMJ disorders with a focus on improving oral health.

You do not have to use this as-is, but this is the general idea. Tell clients which services you provide and how you can help them.

Next, you should add more skill categories to your skills list, but only if they are related to your dentistry work. For example, you should probably add Dental Care and maybe Dental Technology. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Also, consider adding a portfolio to show samples of oral health writing or other content. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Once you make these updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Hello Bareera,

Welcome to Upwork.

You need to revise your profile to focus on a specific skill area. Medical services and calligraphy are completed unrelated. If you are provide calligraphy services here on Upwork, you should remove any mention of being a medical student--it will only confuse clients.

Next, you need to change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face--not a graphic or avatar. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Hi Faith,

I looked through your profile and I think looks good. The only nitpicky suggestion I have is to remove the first line in your main profile overview/summary: "Hi there, so glad you’re here" Why? Because the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You have limited space to grab the client's attention and you don't want to waste space with a greeting.

Your portfolio looks great and the other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Hi Vasco,

Your profile looks fine and your portfolio looks good. I do not see much that needs to be improved. The only suggestion I have is to include a short job description for the job at Sotubo.

Hello Muhammad,

Overall, your profile looks good. I think your overview/summary has good information. It is a bit long, but the information is good. If you can combine similar content or remove any redundant content, it could shorten your summary.

You should add more items to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients will expect to see more visual examples of your work.

Also, we are allowed up to 15 skill categories in our skills list, so you should add more, but only if they are relevant. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

In your Data Entry specialized profile, correct the spelling of "wright" in your third sentence. It should say: "You are in the right place." Also in that specialized profile, remove the last line: "Contact me and send me a brief before placing an.order." since this is now how Upwork works.

I am returning to Upwork after a long absence and working to perfect my profile before applying to jobs. Can anyone visit my profile and give me feedback on the photo, headline, and summary at the top of the page? I edited my picture to apply a color background to my image. I like the effect but am afraid it looks slightly "off". Also, my glasses are very wide, and while they are fashionable, they may be too distracting.  I am older and don't want to appear old in my photo, so that is another consideration.

Any comments on the wording in my profile summary?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I have a question about testimonials: Does anyone know if the testimonial has to come from an Upwork client, or can anyone we have worked with on our own provide one?

Thanks for your time and comments!

Upwork

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome back. There have been several changes over the past few years, so you will likely have a ton of questions as you encounter them.

With regards to your photo, I don't think you should be concerned about how you look or your age. Clients care about freelancers who can get results and age often indicates wisdom to many; this can be extremely beneficial. Either way, your profile photo looks fine--the picture is a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face.

Let's take a look at the other parts of your profile:

Title: Your title is okay, but the most important change you can make is to be more specific by using the full name of the application: Talented Microsoft Access Designer and Developer. The title is linked with your summary and skills, so it is important to use the full name.

Overview/Summary: I like your summary; it is concise, the wording is great, and it tells clients about the services you can provide. There appears to be a small grammatical error in the last sentence of your first paragraph: "No matter what function you need your program to accomplish, I am always up for the challenge and will work tirelessly to find the best solution." Of course, you should use the words you prefer, but I wanted to point it out.

Portfolio: The items in your portfolio are great, but you should add skill categories to each. These are similar to the skill categories you add to your skills list. The biggest reason to update your skills categories in your portfolio is so clients can find you when they search for specific skills related to those portofolio items, and so Upwork’s matching algorithms can better match you with relevant jobs.

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup pre-packaged services that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

With regards to Testimonials, the testimonial can come from Upwork clients or any client outside of Upwork. In fact, most freelancer's list of testimonials come from clients they worked with in the past. The trick is, the client has to have a LinkedIn profile; this is how Upwork validates the client's authenticity. You can read more about Testimonials here.

I think that's it for now. Your profile is in great shape, so hopefully you will continue winning jobs!

Hello Upwork community, Have a look at my profile again as I changed a few things which were noticed by the community member - https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~013ea7700ae4f3262a

Hassan,

Your profile updates look good. Add a short job description to the job in your employment history. The other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Thanks for the feedback, I am gonna add the description there in my employment history.
Thanks again.
