Hello Arun,

Your overview/summary and portfolio look good, but you need to change your photo and add more skill categories to your skills list.

The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

We are allowed up to 15 skills, and there are many more an artist/illustrator could add. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Once you make these updates, I think your profile will look better to clients and your job matches should be better.

Hi Khushboo,

I think your profile is informative and looks really good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Community Member

Please review my profile and let me know if anyone is willing to give me the best feedback.

Here is my profile link.

Thank you.

I think your profile looks good. The only two suggestions I have is to add a very important skill category to your skills list: Full-Stack Development and add a short job description to your position at Keshav. We are allowed up to 15 skills and it looks like your main profile has 14. The reason to add Full-Stack Development is because it syncs with your title and summary. This will Upwork match you with relevant jobs and help your profile appear when clients search for your skills.

Everything else looks fine. I do not see any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Muhammad Ali,

I think your profile looks pretty good. Your overview/summary is quite long and most clients will never read it all, but the information is valid.

I recommend removing the first line of your summary: "Full Stack Web Developer | React JS, Shopify, and WordPress Expert" Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients in searches, which means you have small window of opportunity to grab their attention. You want to use that small window to show clients that you can mee their needs. There is no need to repeat your title in the first line.

I would also add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history.

Everything else looks great.

Stanley Uchenna,

I looked through your profile and I think everything is good. Your overview/summary is well-written and gives prospective clients enough information to understand how you can help them.

My only suggestion for your profile is to add a portfolio to show samples of your work. Clients like visuals and the portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. It can be difficult for an auditor/bookkeeper to showcase samples, but if you can think of any audit documents, reports,  software applications, etc. to show, it might help clients better understand the tools and resources you use.

The other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Good luck!

Good Day Everyone,

I am new to Upwork and freelancing. Here is my profile link: Wilson I. - Full Stack Developer(MERN) - Upwork Freelancer from Aba, Nigeria

I have set up my profile, but I am encountering significant challenges in gaining recognition and excelling on the platform. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can provide regarding the changes that need to be made in order to achieve success on Upwork

Community Member

Hi Wilson,

You are having the same problem millions of new freelancers have when joining Upwork. Competition has been really high lately, so getting profile views, getting proposals views, and winning jobs can be tough.

I looked through your profile and I think it has good information for clients.

You are missing a very important skill category in your skills list: Full-Stack Development. Adding Full-Stack Development will sync your title, summary, skills, and employment history, which will help Upwork's algorithms match you with relevant jobs, and help your profile appear when clients search for your skills.

Everything else looks good.

Good day Clark,

Wow, thank you so much.

Community Member

Greetings Upwork Community,

I kindly request your valuable insights and guidance in reviewing my profile, which you can find here: Karthik - Profile Link.

Any suggestions on how I can enhance my profile would be immensely helpful.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

On Upwork, clients have the option (and exercise that option) of hiring experts. Top professionals. The best in the world at what they do, people who can promise them results, especially when focused on a particular problem that they know as well as anyone on the planet.

Being good at something just isn't competetive here. You sound competent. You sound honest.  You sound like a knowledgeable entrepreneur.  But you sound like a generalist -- a good businessman is one thing but someone who can promise to solve problem X for businesses is another thing.

Freelancers can be managers when they are hired to become interim managers, but you don't advertise yourself as such. If you did, you would say something like "Top interim manager who can take over complex retail businesses in need of short-term problem solving or leadership."

In other words, Karthik, you need to find a way to define yoursel as an expert, not just as a good manager who is likeable. You can only do this by specializing. Nobody can solve every problem there is. Remember, you are a freelancer, which means, almost always, temporary work -- in and out quick. You offer skills that anyone wouild hire if they were looking for a permanent job managing a division of their company -- but you don't promise short term results that make you a professional of the highest caliber in one specific niche. Somewhere in there, if you lean in my direction, is where you want to be.

Hello Anthony,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review my profile and share your insightful suggestions.

Your words about the importance of specialization and becoming an expert in a specific niche really resonated with me. I understand the significance of offering targeted solutions that can provide clients with tangible, short-term results. I'll definitely take this advice to heart and work on refining my profile accordingly.

Have a good day!

Hello experts, i am Malick

Could you please review my profile and let me know what are the points of improvement? Click to get acces

Hello Malick,

Your overview/summary does not provide clients with enough information to understand how you can help them. You should remove the first few words from your summary: "Support Administratif Translator ( French-English ) ,Writer , Digital Marketing , Social Network Manager , Ads Manager. These are simply titles and it does not help clients understand what you do.

Use your summary to tell clients about the services you provide and how you can help meet their needs. It is best if your services are related. For example, translation and digital marketing are not related, so this might be confusing to clients.

If you talk about translation, tell clients what you can translate (e.g., books, web content, articles, other documentation, etc.) If you talk about digital marketing or social media management, tell clients which services you provide. Again, I think your translation services and digital marketing services should be separated, so your main profile should only be focused on translation services.

Once you make these updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Hi All,

Community Member

Hi Andy,

The biggest improvement you can make is to add a portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by showing samples of your work. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

You should also add more skill categories to your skills list, but only if they are relevant to your digital marketing work. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skill categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

In your specialized profiles, you should remove the first line of your summary: "SEO & SEM Specialist" and "Customer Support Specialist." If clients see these profiles in searches, they will only see the first two sentences and the information you have is simply a repeat of your title. It will be better if clients see information related to your services in the first two sentences.

The rest of your profile looks good.

Your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public if you want others to see it.

Hello, I'd highly appreciate if you'd provide a feed back on my profile.

Thank you in advance.

I don't get a very tangible impression of your professionalism. Where have you worked in the past? Who were your design clients? What topics have you covered as a writer? Where are your writing samples and/or design samples?

Selling your creativity is fine, but the writing market is divided into several divisions and you don't mention any of them except poetry and storytelling, probably the smallest markets these days. You don't mention blogs, content writing, copywriting, article writing, ghostwriting, technical writing -- all of the catch phrases that are pivitol aspects of professional writing.

You get an A plus for jumping in and stating your case, but many clients will want to see a track record. If no one has hired you before, most people won't want to be the first one to take a risk hiring you.

Hello experts,

Could you please review my profile and write me how may i improve my profile information?

Community Member

Hello Md Siful Islam,

I think your profile looks good, but I recommend adjusting your overview/summary beginning. Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You want to use as much of that space as possible to tell clients what you can do and how you can help them, which means you should remove the greeting and your name since clients can already see your name on your profile.

I suggest something similar to this:

I am an experienced WordPress & Shopify developer with several years of experience creating any type of website in WordPress, building Shopify stores, and creating gravity forms using conditions and logic. I work quickly by optimizing the time I spend testing applications and will work with you to develop a site based on your unique needs.

Skill Set

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Everything else in your profile looks fine.
