Atmiya,

I looked through your profile and I have a few suggestions:

1) Remove the first line from your overview/summary: "Hello from Atmiya" Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space (only two sentences) to grab their attention. You don't want to waste any space with a greeting and your name; clients can already see your name on your profile.

2) I recommend adding at least one more item to your portfolio. Clients will expect to see several examples from a Shopify expert and the portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression.

3) Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Hello Upwork Community,

I've recently updated my profile to reflect my expertise and aspirations better. As I'm keen to ensure it resonates well with potential clients, I'd deeply appreciate any feedback from experienced freelancers here. It would mean a lot if you shared your insights or suggestions.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise!

Warm regards,

Hello Renrick,

I think potential clients will find a lot of value in your profile, but they probably won't read most of your overview/summary. The content is great, but clients rarely read more than a few paragraphs. The good thing is, your first paragraph appears to provide enough information for clients to understand how you can help them.

If possible, you should include a portfolio--especially since you have so many success stories. Clients like visuals, and the portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Everything else looks good.

Dear Clark,

Thank you for taking the time to review my profile and provide such insightful feedback. I genuinely appreciate your suggestions, especially regarding the overview/summary and the emphasis on the portfolio. I'll definitely look into creating a project catalog as well, thanks for pointing that out. Your advice will undoubtedly help me improve my profile to better cater to potential clients.

Warm regards,

Renrick

Greetings!

I setup my profile for WordPress web designer. Can anyone help me in rectifying the errors.

Thanks

Greetings Nasrullah,

Please use two Skills in the Title, four paragraphs for the Summary minus the emoticons, use all 15 Skills, and add a Project Catalog. Click the Academy link on the top of the page for success tips.

Hi Nasrullah,

Could you please share more information about these errors you're experiencing when setting up your profile? If you can share a screenshot of what you can see from your end, that would be extremely helpful so we can assist you accordingly—looking forward to your response.

Hi Community Members.

I'm Mohsin and I have three years of experience as a Virtual Assistant and Lead Generation. Although, I created an account on Upwork a long ago, mostly I found my clients from other marketplaces and remain inactive here.

Now, I am actively looking for a VA role here on Upwork, but I haven't had any success. I have submitted many proposals,  but due to the new profile (zero project), mostly clients have not agreed to go with us.

Need your help and suggestions.

Hi Mohsin,

Virtual assistance and lead generation are highly competitive skill areas on Upwork, so getting attention from clients and winning jobs can be a challenge. If you have strong qualifications, experience, and marketable skills, your Upwork work project history might not matter much. Clients often look for the best freelancers--regardless of their Upwork work history.

Your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public if you want other freelancers to view it.

Thanks.

Charles Deus,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Freelancers do not provide other freelancers sample articles.

This thread is for freelancers to request feedback on their profiles.

Anshara,

One of your writing samples is 80 words long (I counted). One is eight words long. The last one is about 100 words long.

You should have at least one sample that shows a standard article that you wrote -- at least 600 words. These short bits are not enough for many publishers to take seriously.

Hello! I would love feedback on my profile please 🙂

https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~01507c8041875df552

Krystal,

Your write-up is quite terse -- kind of bluntly to the point. It is also quite short. I think it needs to be aired out a little bit.

I like your opening. It's very strong. Mentioning your Masters' degree right away is important. It tells us you are a contender right away, someone to pay attention to.

I still think a little more story-telling would be in order. One rule of thumb is that people hire people they think they will get along with and you are straight to the point and business-like, which doesn't give anyone a chance to get any vibe about your personality. You don't have to force that, just be yourself and write a bit more and your friendliness will show up on its own. But being friendly is important.

Being confident is also important. You are off to a great start on that; your approach is confident. But it needs a few more details to be convincing. Talk a little about the small, medium and large businesses you've worked for. Any kind of detail will add to your credibility, even if it's, "I've worked for clothing retailers, local farmers and nonprofit companies throughout Texas." Details don't have to be any more personal than that, but details/specifics helps sell your story. Stayng distant or vague doesn't sound as convincing as details do.

That's all I can think of for the moment ... I think your pricing seems OK. Oh, if stuck simply comb through Upwork and find other accountant profiles and see if you can get any ideas from them. That might help.

Good luck.

Shaban,

My first suggestion is to remove the first sentence in your overview/summary: "Hello, my name is Shaban Qayyum. I am a professional Graphic designer based in Islamabad Pakistan." This seems innocent, but it takes up too much valuable space. Only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients in searches, which means you have very little space to get their attention. You want clients to see important information in that small space--not a greeting, your name, or your location. Clients can already see your name and locationi on your profile.

Also, parts of your summary refer to you ("I") while other parts refer to "we." I recommend each reference be to you: "I We offer Logo Design services for various industries" and "SERVICES I WE OFFER:" and "MY OUR PROCESS."

The other areas of your profile look fine.

Hi Kristina,

The answer to your question has two angles--one is about freelancing and the other is about using Upwork as a tool during your freelancing journey.

If you are completely new to freelancing, I'm afraid these forums might not be the best place to learn. Freelancing is a business and there are too many facets of running a freelancing business to start a discussion here.

However, these forums are great for learning about Upwork and how to use the marketplace to find work and connect with clients. The best place to start is the Upwork Academy, which has several courses and learning paths that show you how to navigate the site and use its resources successfully.

The courses provide information for building your profile, but if you want other freelancers to review your profile, post a message in New To Upwork: Get Profile Feedback.

Anoosha,

Welcome to Upwork.

Clients come to Upwork when they have specific needs and they look for freelancers who have the skills and qualifications to fill those needs. Without professional experience, it will be difficult to find clients who will hire you to provide mental health services. However, if you wish to provide psychology/mental health services, your profile must market your skills and qualifications, and your services.

Your profile--especially your overview/summary--needs to offer clients an overview of the services you can provide. If you are focusing on psychology services, you must use your summary to explain the services you will provide, how you will help clients meet their needs, and why they should hire you.

Since you have other non-psychological skills, you should create one or two Specialized Profiles that focus logo design, mobile app testing, or any services not related to psychology. In those profiles, you should use the same approach--tell clients which logo design or mobile app testing services you provide, how you will meet the clients' needs, and why you are the best logo designer/mobile app tester they can hire.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

I will appreciate any help as a newbie. Navigating through the help resources on my phone is daunting, I think it will be a better experience on the laptop. I truly need help as I want to get engaged full time here.

Marcus,

Welcome to Upwork.

I looked through your profile and have a few suggestions on how to improve. However, you are right--the help resources are valuable, so you should look at them on a laptop.

Title: Upwork profiles work best when they are focused on a specific skill area or two or more highly related skill areas. Your title reflect unrelated skill areas and this will confuse potential clients. My recommendation is to focus your main profile on GIS services, then create one or two Specialized Profiles that focus on any services not related to GIS (i.e., data entry/collection).

In doing that, your title for your GIS main profile should only include GIS-related skill areas. In your data entry specialized profile, that title should only include data entry skill areas.

Overview/Summary: The same concept flows to your summary. Use your main profile summary to tell clients which GIS services you provide (your summary does a good job of this) and how your services can help meet their goals or solve their problems (your summary needs to talk about this).

You will apply this same approach to your data entry specialized profile--

For each profile, remove the following from the first two lines: "Profile" and "Professional Summary" Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You have very little space to grab their attention, and you do not want to waste space with words like "profile" and "professional summary."

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show samples of your work. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

When you are able to view the site on your laptop, be sure to review the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Good luck!

Onesmus,

Nice updates since the last review.

Your portfolio, skills, consultation, project catalog, and other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Good luck!

Hi Coleen Grace,

Very good start to your profile! Your overview/summary is well-written and informative, and I think clients should have no problems choosing you to help them meet their goals.

The only suggestion I have is to add a portfolio to show samples of your work. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Everything else looks good.
