Priyanshu Mohit,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary and revise the content you have now.

Your title should be a specific skill category or two or more related skill categories. The information in your title is scattered and unrelated.

If you are a web developer, use your summary to talk about the web development services you provide and remove the content writing information.

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hi Norah,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, you must fix several things in your profile

1) First, focus your title on a specific skill category or two or more related skill categories. Editing and proofreading are not necessarily related to finanical services, and "financial report" will be meaningless to clients reading your title. If you are a writer or editor/proofreader, your title should simply be: Editor/Proofreader or Editing and Proofreading Services.

2) Your overview/summary should explain the services you provide based on your title. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results. Use your summary to tell clients which editing/proofreading services you provide, how you will work with them to meet their needs, and why they should choose you over other editors/proofreaders. Remove "2. PROFILE" from the beginning of your summary because it adds no value to your summary.

3) Add more skill categories related to editing/proofreading to your skills list. These skill categories are keywords Upwork uses to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results.

4) Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. Clients will expect to see samples from an editor/proofreader and the portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on them. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Tinashe,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, add more information to your overview/summary.

Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results. So, you must talk about your virtual assistance services, how you will help clients with those services, and why clients should choose you. Virtual assistance is a highly competitvie skill area, so getting jobs can be a challenge. You must give clients several reasons to choose you over the other thousands of virtual assistants here.

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Hey please can you look through my profile and review what i need to correct or change. Thanks in advance

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Hi Duru,

I recommend removing the first sentence in your overview/summary: "Hello, I'm Kester—an accomplished writer and native English speaker." Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want to fit important words in that small space. You don't want to waste any space with a greeting.

The remainder of your summary is fine, but you may wish to add a brief overview of your process (i.e., communicating with clients to understand their unique requirements, your desire to deliver drafts and final versions in a timely manner, etc.)

Also, correct the spelling of your job title at Format Publishers Ltd: Book Fromatting Formatting

I think the rest of your profile looks good.

could I request someone to take a look at my profile and advise.

thanks in advance. 🙂

Clark S Community Member

Hi Aditya,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Specifically, talk about the services you can provide and talk less about your experience. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

Your title says: DevOps & Solution Architecture | Business, Information Analysis, SQL, but your summary mentions a degree in Applied Computer Science and billing administration. Clients will want to know how these are related and if so, what can you do with these services to help them.

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Additionally, there are probably more skill categories related to your services that you can add to your skills list. The skill categories in your list are keywords Upwork uses match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear when clients search for your skills.

Once you make these updates--especially to your summary--clients will have a better understanding of your services and how you can meet their needs or solve their problems.

It's been 2 months since i started sending proposals on upwork on daily bases. I got some jobs.
But i think my proposal writing is weak and it need improvement.

Here is the proposal:
"Hey Davis!

You are looking for a professional packaging designer to improve and grow your business with visually appealing designs for your business. What is your product about and what is your targeted audience?

About me:

I have 6+ years of experience in Packaging Designing and Graphic Designing. An expert in creating brand identity, logos, EPK (electronic Press Kit), banners, and any type of box/pouch design. I also excel in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, CorelDraw, Figma, Sketch, and Blender for 3d product mockups.

Kindly review the proposal and let me know what should i do to improve it.

Mujahid,

The secret to a great proposal letter is simple.  1. Establish your expertise. You must do that first. Nobody will want to read the rest of your proposal unless you're an expert. 2. Be friendly, but not overly or obviously friendly. And 3. Tell them what they want to hear.

OK. So the opening is "As a professional packaging design expert I am very interested in the job posting on Upwork concerning packages for children's shoes."

OK -- that first tells them I'm an expert. It says you are interested in the posting, which is not too pushy. And they posted a job about packaging for children's shoes, so what do they want to hear? They want the words "children's shoes" in their very quickly to show that you read and understand the job posting.

After that, write two or three more short paragraphs that tell them what they want to hear. There will be hints in the job posting. They will say they are in a hurry or that they want someone experienced in color matching. Whatever it is they say, TELL THEM WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. I can't be more emphatic than that.

My advice: Don't start with "Hey, Davis!"  That's overly friendly and it's a waste of two words. They want to know you're an expert. They are not here for idle chit-chat. They don't want to be your friend. They want to hire a professional.

Professionals don't serve tea and biscuits. They don't waste people's time. They get right down to business. So be a professional. Your first words should be "As an expert package designer with X years of experience ...." You're first words should not be "Hey, Buddy!"

You must not sound overly eager or promise them the sun and the moon. Professionals don't do that. Professionals are confident. Your tone should be "take it or leave it." If they decide on someone else, you're a professional, so you can handle it. "Take it or leave it," says "I'm not going to beg for this job." If you beg, they will either laugh or take advantage of you. Keep it professional.

Good luck.

Hey Anthony;
I have updated my old proposal according to the changes you had highlighted.

If you could take a look at it, that would be greatful.

As an expert Graphic Designer with 7 years of experience I am interested in the job posting on Upwork concerning Logo Design, Brand Guideline Design, and Packaging design for your cosmetic brand.

You will get a timeless logo design with 3 variations to choose from. Also, with 3 color variations you asked for (black and white, grayscale). The logo will be created in Adobe Illustrator. You will get the Illustrator (Ai), JPEG, PNG, SVG, PDF file format with 300 dpi (high resolution).

After completing the logo design we will move to the brand style guideline design. Which will include these following pages.

  1. Logo
  2. Color palette
  1. Typography
  2. Logo Variations
  3. Color Variations
  4. Logo icon

After completing the first milestone we will move to the Banner designing for website and social media. You will get 3 variations for each banner to choose from and banners will be in perfect size according to your website and social media.

For packaging design for your five products which are acrylic skincare jars, skincare tubes, protein powder sachet/bag, facial serum bottle, vitamin/supplement bottle and their outer cardboard carton layers of packaging. Do you have the Dieline template for the packaging? Or, do you have the size of the products?

Portfolio:

**Edited for Community Guidelines**

Let’s discuss your requirements for the design in more detail after signing the NDA.

Best Regards,

Mujahid Khan

Hi.

I am new to Upwork. Just joined about a month ago. Have a pro account, ID verified and also have Rising Talent badge. My profile is not visible to anyone, which surprises and bothers me. Not even the clients to whom I send proposals within a few minutes of posting a job.

Any one help me to find the problem. What should I do to get the job, or atleast get attention/visible to clients. !!!

Thank you.

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Mirza Shahid,

Your profile is visible. Freelancers can see it and clients can see your profile in searches.

When you send proposals, there are no guarantees that clients will view your proposals or your profile. As long as you are sending proposals to jobs that match your skills and qualifications, you are doing what you should do.

As stated in my last review (you can see that review here) you still need to add a portfolio, since portfolios get attention.

Hello there!

I'm a Intermediate level Graphic Designer. I'm new here. Can you please review my profile and make suggestions for me?

Hello Muhammad Umar,

The first thing I recommend is you change to the first part of your profile overview/summary. When clients search for freelancers, they will see only the first two sentences of your summary. This means you have very little space (about 250 characters) to get their attention. You want that small space to include important words (your services, your approach to helping the client, etc.). You want to avoid greetings, your name, or anything that does not provide value to the client.

For example, I suggest removing this: "Hello! Myself Muhammad Umar Farooq and I would love to work with you!"  Then, instead of focusing the next sentence on your location, tell clients about your services and leave out the word, "freelancer:"

I am a graphic designer providing logo design, vector illustration, photo editing and retouching, Docx and presentations to my clients. I am available every day of the week and very efficient. I always ensure a quick turnaround to my clients and strive to meet any deadlines.

I offer many different creative services and I am always looking to build long term relationships with clients. My mission is to provide you with high-quality graphic designs to help you reach your goals.

(Leave out the "typing, data entry and PDF" since neither is related to your grahpic design services. I you wish to provide typing, data entry and PDF services, create a Specialized Profiles dedicated to those services.)

You might want to add other relevant skill categories to your skills list. Consider adding Photo Editing and Vector Art, since you mention both in your summary. These skill categories as keywords Upwork uses to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear when clients search for your skills.

Hi Tahmina,

Your overview/summary appears to be a copy/paste--at least the first part. I recommend changing this to be specific to your capabilities and your specific services.

When clients search for freelancers, they will see only the first two sentences of your summary. This means you have very little space to get their attention. You want to use that small space to talk about your services and what you can do to help clients. Avoid greetings and mentioning your name, or anything that does not provide value to the client.

That means removing this: "Hello! Myself Tahmina Khadim and I would love to work with you! Then, remove your location and the word "freelancer" and tell clients about your services:

I am a Microsoft Word & PDF expert who can help you with document creation, formatting, and management; data entry; content writing; and PDF conversions. I am available every day of the week and work efficiently to deliver quality materials. I always ensure a quick turnaround to my clients and strive to meet all deadlines.

Your portfolio and skills list look good, But you should add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Good luck!
