Hi Sonia

I have checked your profile. Here are some usefull tips that you should follow for now:

1) Remove blue background from your image and add some poping color. The idea being, when the client see a shocking/popping color, there is a high chance they might click on your profile.

2) Your descrption is lacking and doesn't really show what you do. I would suggest that you add some skills or strengths in bullet points instead of plain paragraphs and highlight your major achievements or strengths in the first two lines as these are the only lines that will showup when a client searches freelancers in upwork "talent" search.

3) Add specialized profiles to further categorize your skills.

4) Add project catalog these are your gigs where you provide you provide your services as a package for you clients

5) Add certifications if you have any. It could be from Digiskills or any other institution. But keep in mind, these are considered custom certifications in upwork. So you can add only two of them. If you want to add more, then you need to select the list provided by upwork.

6) Fill out "Other Experiences" section

7) Request for testimonials if you can.

Tip:
Checkout this "https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/mujahidkhan" freelancer's profile for better understanding. He is also a designer. Also, after completing these steps you should search your profile in the upwork "talent" search and see how your profile would look like to clients.

Hi Mustafa,

I have checked your profile. Here are some usefull tips that you should follow for now:

1) Use a close up of your face and add some poping color as background.

2) Your descrption is well defined but add your 3-5 major strengths / skills on tops and use some icons in place of bullet points. Because the first two lines show up when the client searchs your profile. So make them count.

3) Add some portofolios to showcase your previous work, doesn't matter if its outside of upwork. If you don't have any portfolios then I would suggest that you either borrow from someone with their permission or create your own.

4) Add project catalog, these are your gigs where you provide you provide your services as a package for you clients

5) Add certifications if you have any. It could be from Digiskills or any other institution. But keep in mind, these are considered custom certifications in upwork. So you can add only two of them. If you want to add more, then you need to select the list provided by upwork.

7) Fill out "Other Experiences" section

😎 Request for testimonials if you can.

Other than that, I think your profile is ready. But keep making new changes and improving your profile.

Hi Shawna,

Welcome to Upwork.

I think your provile overview/summary has a great approach and you definitely have impressive credentials throughout your profile.

For many niches like virtual assistance and data entry, I usually suggest freelancers immediately introduce their services and focus on keeping the client's attention. For more advanced niches like B2B/B2C/B2G marketing and brand strategy, I think your experience/background speaks for itself and the profile summary should be written like yours is.

WIth that, I don't see much to improve. However, you should consider adding a portfolio to show samples of previous work, to show off your achievements, or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients, and most fractional CMOs and brand strategists with your qualifications have portfolios.

Also, you should consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

Hi! I'm Oluwapelumi. I'm a Information management specialist, with over 6 years extensive experience in Data entry, Data Cleaning, Data analysis, Data Visualization . I'd love to find some type of side hustle to compliment my monthly income as an employee. This I believe and know will enable me test my skills and make some legitimate income outside the confines of my country. I am currently based in Nigeria.

I'm hoping to be successful in this new stage of freelancing of my skills and experiencemy career and I'd love to hear from others how to attract first clients. I have attached two copies among the numerous work i have successfully completed.

I will be happy to get all forms of feedback and new clients moving forward

Hi Oluwapelumi,

For freelancers new to Upwork and for freelancers who have been here a while, the best way to attract clients is to have a profile with experience and marketable skills, and to send proposals with effective cover letters. It sounds easy, but it's really the best way to attract clients.

The first part of your profile overview/summary is interesting, but I'm not sure how much it will attract clients. When clients search for freelancers, they will see only the first two sentences of your summary. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see their goals (your services) in that small space. The question is: do you want clients to see what you currently have in the first two sentences of your summary? Will that convince them to click and view your profile?

Also, you should add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

can you please give feedback to my profile

Peter,

There is redundancy in your profile title. I think your title will be more appealing to clients as: Creative Logo and Branding Designer or Graphic Design | Creative Logos and Branding Design

Two suggestions for your overview/summary:

1) Graphic design, including logos and branding, are highly competitive skill areas on Upwork. Clients need more information in your summary to be convinced to hire you.Add more information about your process for working with clients to understand their needs. Talk about your timeliness and ability to work efficiently.

2) Focus on keeping the client's attention in the first two sentences of your summary. Clients can see the first two sentences while searching for freelancers, so you want them to see their goals (your services) in that small space.

Your first two sentences are about your education and background experience. These are good, but you should consider talking about your services first.

Also, add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Hi,

Can anyone please review my profile?

Clark's avatar

Hi Rani,

It appears that you have made good updates since the last profile review.

However, I'm a bit concerned about your title. When clients are searching for freelancers, the title is one of the first things they see. Clients need to see your services in the title or they might skip your profile.

Because you have a diverse skill set and several services to offer, I recommend using Virtual Assistant in your title. For example, you could say: Virtual Assistant | Content Writing, Data Entry, Customer Service  or Multi-Skilled Virtual Assistant Ready To Upraise Your Project

Your summary sounds good, and your portfolio, skills, certifications, and employment history look good.

Hello!  I'm sorta new still to upwork.  I would love to receive feedback on my profile! I just updated it today. https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/eclectechconsulting

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Hello Jennifer,

I like the information in your profile, but I think it a few adjustments can make it more appealing to potential clients.

Title: If I were a client searching for freelancers and saw your title, I would have no idea what you do. I recommend using the skill information/role in the first line of your summary for your title: Process Optimization Specialist. Or, you could say: Process Optimization Specialist | Empowering Efficiency with Tailored Solutions. Catchy lines like "Empowering Efficiency Through Tailored Solutions"  by itself can get attention, but it doesn't tell clients what you do, and that's the key.

Overview/Summary: Speaking of catchy lines, the first part of your summary isn't the place for them, and it certainly isn't the place for emojis. Here's why: when clients search for freelancers, they will see only the first two sentences of your summary. This means you have very little space (about 250 characters) to get their attention.

You want clients to see their goals (your services) in those first 250 characters. You don't want to waste space with catchy phrases, a greeting, your name, emojis, or anything that doesn't tell clients what you do.

celgins_0-1700519594327.png

I would simplify this, and make sure clients I tell clients how I can help them in the first two sentences:

I'm a Process Optimization Specialist with 8 years of experience streamlining business operations and driving efficiency through process optimization within the IT landscape. As the brains behind Eclectech Consulting, I help businesses optimize existing processes through strategic software implementation.

Eclectech Consulting excels in fine-tuning processes across diverse industries. We possess a strong technical acumen for Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms, leveraging our expertise to enhance and optimize operational workflows.

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Employment History: Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Diego,

Thanks for setting your profile visibility.

I looked through your profile and you have some good information there. However, I see an issue I often see in freelancers with a diverse skill set. You are using a single profile to talk about niches or skill areas that are not necessarily related.

Your overview/summary does a good job of following your title and speaks about creative writing, translations, and video editing. But, I think it might be more beneficial to clients if you focus your main profile on your most valuable skill area, and create one or two Specialized Profiles that focus on unrelated services. For example, you can focus your main profile on creative writing where you talk about your writing services. Then, one specialized profile can focus on digital marketing, while another specialized profile focuses on translations.

Also, there is a small correction needed in the last sentence of your first paragraph.

I am passionate about Human Rights and I making an specialization in International Humanitarian Law.

This should probably be something like:

I am passionate about Human Rights and I am currently pursuing a Master of Laws degree with a specialization in International Humanitarian Law.

Even though I recommend one or more specialized profiles to separate unrelated skill areas, Upwork gives us only one portfolio. I think you should add a few more items to your portfolio: 1) maybe a creative writing sample or an article you have published; 2) maybe another video editing sample; and 3) one or two digital marketing samples.

Hi Omair,

I looked through your profile and I think it looks fine.

The "7+ yrs experience" in your title sounds okay. but I recommend removing it and using it in your overview/summary instead. Upwork recommends not including experience information in a title and I agree.

Success on Upwork can be a challenge since there are so many freelancers and few legitimate jobs available. Competition is high, but I do not think there is anything wrong with your profile that would prevent clients from hiring.

Donvan,

I think your profile overview/summary is good, but I suggest adding a little more information.

For example, you can talk about your process for working with clients to understand their unique needs. Also, talk about your timeliness and your ability to adapt and work according to their schedules. Then, in addition to Microsoft Excel and Word, mention any tools you're proficient with that can help you provide data entry support. Finally, talk about how you respect deadlines and can help maintain quality standards.

Since data entry is so competitive, you should probably add one or two more items to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients, and clients often like to see visuals.

Remember--you are competing with hundreds of thousands of data entry specialists, so clients need several reasons to choose you.
