Hello Kanu,

Welcome to Upwork.

Overall, your profile looks good. I have a few suggestions that might help improve a few areas:

Title: Your title sounds good, but change "backend" to "Back-End" (Back-End Developer). Including a dash is the industry standard, and Upwork uses "Back-End" in its skill categories. More on this later.

Overview/Summary: Good information in your summary, but you want to mention your services (not just programming languages) in the first two sentences. Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see their goals (your services) in that small space.

Here is an example of how you can add your services to the first two sentences.

Back-End Developer with 2+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise software engineering. I specialize in leveraging Django, Python, MySQL, Bash, and container orchestration tools to craft robust and scalable databases, RESTful APIs, data analytics tools, content management systems, dashboards, and more.

Skills: As mentioned above, your title should use skill categories (or words highly related to those skill categories) like "back-end". And, this (or another similar skill category) needs to appear in your skills list. For example, your skills lists needs Back-End Development and Back-End Development Framework to align with your title and summary. These skill categories are keywords Upwork uses to match you with relevant jobs and helps your profile appear in search results for those skill categories.

Employment History: Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Hi Eva,

Welcome to Upwork.

Good start to your profile. I like the beginning of your overview/summary, but there are a few grammar corrections needed. Also, the first 215-250 characters (approximately two sentences) are shown to clients in searches, so you want to eliminate redundant words or any words that do not provide value.

Here is an example of how I would consolidate the first five paragraphs of your summary to eliminate repeated words and reduce the amount of space used:

I offer typing, proofreading and data entry services using Microsoft Word and Excel. I type 60 words per minute with a 90% accuracy rate. If you're looking for a one-stop solution for all your typing and data entry needs I can help you with data entry, typing, proofreading, editing, and document management.

With almost 8 years of professional experience as an adminstrative assistant, I can solve your typing, data entry and proofreading problems to achieve optimal outcomes. I prioritize understanding your unique requirements and work closely with you throughout the process. My goal is to help you improve your business productivity by delivering excellent services within the required deadline.

Skills / Competencies:

(...)

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Your skills list and employment history look good.

Cruz,

When you say you specialize in design, music, and film, that's way, way too broad. It doesn't sound like specializing. It sounds like your reaching for something that resonates with others.

The general idea is that nobody is an expert at everything. To be successful, freelancers usually hone in on one skill that they know they can do as well as anyone else. You have to be tops in your field to be a freelancer. At least, that's how the common thinking goes.

My advise is to start again, but think of the one service you can provide that you know you do well and that you can do quickly and competitively. There are something like 12 million freelancers on Upwork, so if you are not competetive, you might never get a job here. Think of what you can do and call yourself an expert. That's the place to start.

And ... go ahead and prove me wrong, but I think you'll just flounder if you try too many things.

Thank you, I can see why that's an issue.
It's always difficult for me to tack down specialties in a profile as i've had to wear so many hats with my clients in the past.

This is great feedback, and certainly appreciated

Your profile looks excellent, How long have you been on Upwork? CV/Resume writing is very in demand as well as LinkedIn rewriting profiles with optimization. I see you offer this at an hourly rate. I looked at all your projects and don't see Resume writing service, consider adding it as a project as well.

Hello everyone. I am using my old upwork account which is almost 5-6 years old, is it okay to start looking for a job using this account? And can you please take a look at my profile and list the issues on my profile? I have recently joined Freelance Plus and have not got profile views or any proposal views.

Hello Subash,

I'm not seeing a lot of issues with your website, but you might want to reconsider the first part of your overview/summary. Only the first 210-250 characters (approximately two sentences) are shown to clients in searches, so you want to make sure they see words that will convince them to click. Right now, here is what clients see:

celgins_0-1701382467189.png

The question is--are those first 210 characters enough to entice clients to click and view the rest of your profile?

Also, the list of keywords are not very helpful for Upwork's matching and searching algorithms. Your skills list and profile categories probably have more influence than those keywords.

I think your profile is in good enough shape to start looking for jobs and I think some clients will be comfortable hiring you.

Hi Aira Nicole,

You have good information in your profile, but I recommend revising the first part of your overview/summary.

When clients search for freelancers on Upwork, only the first 200 or so characters (approximately two sentences) are shown. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see some of their goals (your services) in that small space. Your first 190-200 characters look like this:

celgins_1-1701383119904.png

I'm not sure a client will be convinced to click on your profile after reading the first 190 characters--especially since several characters are emojis, which provide no value to clients.

Here is an example of how I would write those first 200+ characters:

Need to scale your social media? I can help you boost your Facebook and Instagram Reels by developing a content schedule using tools like Hootsuite or Buffer to ensure consistent and timely posts that align with your brand.

This means, clients would see this instead:

celgins_2-1701383718044.png

Also, I think you need to add more authentic items to your portfolio to demonstrate your experience or showcase your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients, and they will expect to see social social media samples, a sample content calendar, Canva samples, etc.

Hello Gassan,

Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the forums, but they do not provide profile reviews. Other freelancers offer to review profiles and provide feedback.

Unfortunately, Upwork policy states that all community messages be typed in English; any other language, and the moderators will remove your message.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Huzaif,

Your profile overview/summary has good information that should appeal to some clients. There are a few other things you can do to improve your profile:

Photo: You should change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out better: Microsoft Word and Data Entry Specialist

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.
