Get Profile Feedback from Experienced Freelancers on Upwork

Getting started on Upwork can take a lot of work and focus. To help make this process a little easier, we’ve created this post where you can request feedback on your profile. The community is full of experienced Upwork freelancers who are passionate about helping others. These users will review your profile and provide feedback based on their experience.

If you’re interested in requesting help, make sure your profile visibility is not set to “Private” and then reply below.

We’re excited to see how Community members can continue to help each other to grow!

Note: A previous version of this post was closed as the number of responses made it difficult to read and navigate. If you had not received a response yet to a request you made, please post again in this thread.

Zabey,

There was a review of your profile on November 30; you can see that review here.

Occasionally, other freelancers will review the same profile, but most requests receive only one or two reviews.

Hi Amit,

I went through your profile and I think it looks good.

The only recommendation I have is to remove the following from your overview/summary:

"Hello! I'm Amit, a Top-rated Graphic Designer."

The reason is because only the first 210-250 characters of your summary (approximately two sentences) are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see this at the beginning: "I'm here to turn your ideas into cool visuals whether it's social media posts, banners, or any other design project," The greeting, your name and your Top-Rated status are unnecssary and take up too much space. Clients can already see both your name and status on your profile.

Everything else is in good shape.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted someone to review my profile and let me know if there's something that can be rectified. Because it's been a while that I'm getting a lot of profile views but no invitations for work. By a lot, I mean I got 70+ views in the last 7 days.... I know it's client's choice, but I'd really appreciate some help in reviewing my profile.

Note: I started as a copywriter over here and compeleted one successful job with 5 star rating in that niche. Since then I've been learning 3D product animation and changed my profile accordingly. I hope that one review of copywriting isn't influencing my profile negatively...

Hi Ali,

Overall, your profile is fine, so it's probably not the reason you're not getting invitations. Many clients have seen a drop in invitations over the past several months, and much of it is due to increased competition, rotating search results, fewer quality jobs, and a few other things.

The only thing I would change in your profile is the first part of your overview/summary. Remove "Hi! 😃" and remove the other emoji 🙃 in your first sentence. The reason is because only the first 200-250 characters of your summary (approximately two sentences) are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you clients to see their goals (your services) in those first 200 characters. You don't want to waste any space with a greeting or emojis.

The other areas of your profile look good.

Thank you Clark for such a detailed feedback! I've made the suggested changes to the overview/summary.

Hi Daniel,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs, and your summary needs to tell them what you can do to get results.

Before working on your summary, you should change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face--not a graphic, logo, or avatar. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Back to your summary: First, correct the spelling of sutch to such. Next, move the "if you are looking for" information to the top because this is what clients want to see. Clients can see the first 200-250 characters of your summary when they search for freelancers, so you want them to see their goals (your services). Right now, your first 200-250 characters focus on previous work, which you can mention later.

Here is an example of how to mention your services within the first 200-250 characters of your summary:

With over 21 years of experience in the corporate world, I can help you with valuations, developing business plans, financial projections, market feasibility analyses, and more. I'm an M&A and Business Development Specialist and I've worked for multinationals such as Mitsui and Maersk, and helped them grow their footprints in Latin America.

In Brazil, I have represented the 23K employee local services company on their Buy-Side mandates. I can help you achieve a similar result by... (doing something. Give clients a value statement here; what does your success in Brazil mean to the potential client?)

My goal is to help your business... (how can you apply your business expertise to help potential clients get results?)

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Hi Kwame,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

For example, you say: "I excel at working closely with clients to produce high quality and cost effective work." Clients want to know: What type of work?

You also say: "With my adaptability, methodical nature, and clear attention to detail, I am adept at handling any annotation issues." Clients wnat to know: Specifically, what types of issues and what success have you had in handling similar issues for others?

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Also, capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out better: Data Annotator

Once you update your summary, clients will have a better understanding of your services and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Hi Awais,

I think you need to improve your profile. Ask Clark S for advise. He is a good profile guide.

Awais,

That's a nice effort, but there are needed improvements.

First, as a writer you have to get the write-up letter-perfect. Your first sentence is a bit flawed towards the end. Have you been doing this for 1.5 years or 15 years? That said, year should be plural, not singular, no matter if it's 1.5 or 15.

Also, if it's 1.5 years, it seems unlikely that you've worked with hundreds of clients. I could write a few hundred articles in that time without a doubt, but I don't think Hercules could scrap up hundreds of different clients in 1.5 years. Hundreds starts at 200. That's a different client every 1.8 days. If you can find clients that fast, you're going to be pretty disappointed in Upwork, where you'd be lucky to get a job a week.

On top of that, you need to post tear sheets. Pick at least three of your best ones and put them in the portfolio section.

The only other thing I see that should be changed is your promise to "handle revisions until the client is fully satisfied." First, the Upwork system already has that covered, so you don't need to say that. But if you do say that out loud, you are inviting people to take advantage of you. It's best to find another way to guarantee your work. Tell them one revision is allowed or something ... but telling them you'll work literally until the client lets you off the hook is generally not advised.

Hope this helps.

Huzaif,

I'm sticking with the review I provided November 30; you can see that review here.

The recommended changes will go a long way to improving your profile, and will increase your chances of being hired.

Hi Tahir,

I looked over your profile again and I think the suggestions from September still apply; you can see that review here.

Your first two sentences (approximately 200-250 characters) should tell clients what they're getting by hiring you. Clients can get 'creativity, enthusiasm, designing skills, and professionalism" from anywhere, but what specifically will they get from you.

Hello Andrea, please help me with a feedback on my profile. I'm new and haven't applied for a job yet.

Hello Dorian,

Welcome to Upwork.

Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the forums, but they do not provide profile reviews. Other freelancers offer to review profiles and provide feedback.

I looked through your profile and it looks great. Your title, summary, portfolio, skills and employment history all look good.  I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

If you have specific questions about freelancing or anything related to your account, proposals, problems, etc., you can ask them in the Freelancer's Forum.
