Jemimah,

I see a few things you can change to make your profile more appealing to clients.

Title: Remove "computer skills" from your title; this is a skill expected for almost all skill categories, so there is no need to mention it. Also, remove the comma at the end of your title and capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out: Customer Service & Tech Support | Digital Literacy

Overview/Summary: Remove the word "PROFILE." Then, add information to your summary that focuses on your customer support services. Clients looking for customer service and tech support specialists are looking for specific services (i.e., responding to inquiries, handling complaints, keeping records, etc.)

Here is an example of how your summary should start:

Highly focused customer support professional who can ensure your customers receive high quality assistance and support with their inquiries, concerns, or issues related to your services. I can respond to

to inquiries by phone, email and chat and assist your customers in resolving their problems or concerns by providing accurate information and troubleshooting technical issues

I have great interpersonal skills and can manage customer complaints and conflicts with patience and professionalism. I use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to keep detailed records of customer interactions and resolutions, and I escalate issues to higher-level support or management for further assistance.

(Add more here. Tell clients about your time management and organizational skills. Also mention your ability to solve administrative problems and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.)

You don't have to use the content I wrote, but you get the idea--tell clients how you can help them with customer service and any other value you bring. There are hundreds of thousands of customer service/tech support professionals on Upwork, so clients need several reasons to choose you.

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Once you make these updates, clients will have a better understanding of your services and how you can meet their needs or solve their problems.

Good luck!

Zainab,

I suggest removing this: "Thanks for visiting my profile. My name is Zainab Khan"  from your overview/summary. Why? Because when clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space to get their attention. You want this small space to include important words (i.e., your services, skills, and experience). You do not want to waste space with greetings and names.

The rest of your summary sounds good.

Your portfolio, skills, and certifications look good too, but you should add a short job description to your job at jinnbyte in your employment history.

Good luck!

Darren,

I advise you try to sound more professional than "I love to help small businesses ..." You seem to have much to offer, but you sound somewhat adolescent with this approach. Try to meet your audience on their terms, not on yours.

Darren,

Please use two Skills in the Title, write four Summary paragraphs minus the emoticions, add your Portfolio, and add a Project Catalog. Click the above Academy link for more tips.

Hello,

I'm a full stack web developer with 15+ years of experience and I'm new to UpWork. It seemed to me that is very difficult for someone like me to get at least first works and reviews. What strategy you would suggest to get started? Here is the link to my profile on upwork.

You've mentioned that it requires: "a lot of work and focus" and I was wondering how many years it might take to make a profile that would help you to make a salary that usually full stack web developers can have working for avarage employer here in United States.

Thank you for you your attention and assistance.

Hello Roman,

I think your message was moved from another thread and merged into this one, so I'm not sure who you were conversing with. Either way, I looked through your profile and I have a few thoughts.

Getting hired on Upwork can be a challenge for many freelancers in all skill categories including full-stack development. This happens with both beginners and experienced developers, and mostly due to the amount of competition on Upwork.

With regards to a profile, the only thing that might take a while is building a strong work history; that comes when you win and successfully complete jobs. Before that, you must make sure your profile offers potential clients enough information to convince them to hire you. In other words, they need to see the value in choosing you over the thousands of other full-stack developers.

1) To increase your chances, your overview/summary should provide a little more information about your work process. For example, I suggest adding a paragraph that focuses on your working relationship with clients and how you manage it. For example, I use something like this for your second paragraph:

Part of my development process involves working closely with you to understand your unique needs. I will include your ideas during my planning process and gather feedback throughout development to ensure the final product meets your needs. I manage web projects by overseeing the entire development process--from initial planning and requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.

(I would consider removing the following paragraph--unless you can find a way to show potential clients how it relates to them or how it will benefit them.)

I'm very enthusiastic about artificial intelligence and machine learning. And what is more interest in how to human brain works and what makes us to make one decision or another.

2) Be sure to add more relevant skill categories to your skills list. For example, you use "full-stack web developer" in your title and summary, so you should add Full-Stack Development to your skills list. You should also add Web Development, Mobile App Development and any others that relate to your title or summary. Upwork uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

Finally, full-stack developer salaries in the U.S. can range anywhere from $35.00/hr - $85.00/hr depending on speciality and locality. Some full-stack developers here on Upwork charge similar hourly rates, so there are opportunities to grow your freelancing business. We all started with zero jobs and $0 earnings and you can have success as long as you have marketable skills and put in the time and effort.

Good luck!

William,

The start of your overview/summary sounds good until it gets to this part: "...seeking a challenging position in the world." As a freelancer, you are not seeking a position with an employer. Rather, you are a business providing services to other businesses (clients).

The rest of your summary sounds good, but it's not enough. Almost every 3D Designer on Upwork will say they can deliver visually stunning designs. This is great, but what other value to you bring and why should the client choose you? Here are examples of information you can add to strengthen your summary:

  • What differentiates you from other developers?
  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback during a project to ensure the final product meets their needs.
  • Which tools/applications do you use? (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Do you provide unlimited revisions? Do you offer follow-up support after a design project is completed?
  • Mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Highlight any similar projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.

Clients are looking for reasons to choose you and the information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

I highly recommend adding "3D" to your title. Doing so will create a better bond between your title, summary, and skills, which helps Upwork's algorithm match you with relevant jobs, and helps your profile appear in search results for those skill categories.

Fix the job title for your job at Exoworlds: 3D Airtist &Designer --> 3D Artist & Designer.

Hi Abdul,

The first thing I see in your profile is a conflict between your title and overview/summary. Your title says "Data Entry Specialist," but you immediately tell clients that you are a "technology enthusiast." Additionally, your summary is focused on Abdul when it should be focused on clients.

I suggest revising the first paragraph of your summary to immediately focus on data entry and clients. Clients can see the first 200-250 characters of your summary, and you must provide information that convinces them to click and read your profile. Here is an example of how you can start:

I am a Data Entry Specialist who can research, gather, and input data accurately into spreadsheets and databases. I provide accurate data entry that helps my clients meet their deadlines and maintain quality standards. I specialize in performing data research, data collection, PDF conversions, and data entry using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Spreadsheet, and Google Docs.

Here is a quick overview of the data entry and admin services I provide to my clients:

โœ” Data Entry

โœ” Web Research

โœ” Data Collection

(...)

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Good luck!

Numan,

The first part of your profile overview/summary will not convince clients to hire you. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can meet those needs and get results. The first part of your summary sounds like an employee looking for a job. As a freelancer, you are a business providing services to other businesses (clients).

To make your summary more client-focused (and less focused on you), I highly suggest removing the following:

"Hello everyone!

My name is Numan Haider, and I am eager to learn from experienced professionals and bring my fresh perspective and enthusiasm to a team. I am ready to dive in, roll up my sleeves, and demonstrate my potential."

When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want to use this small space to show clients how you can help them instead of mention your perspective and potential. For example:

I'm a Social Media Manager who can create, lead and execute social media campaigns across multiple accounts including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, and more. I specialize in real estate skip tracing, lead generation, web research, and email discovery.

The job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Trinh,

Data entry is probably the most crowded skill area on Upwork. Hundreds of thousands of freelancers offer data entry services, and your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you as a data entry specialist.

The experience you provided looks great, but clients want to know how much experience (i.e., 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc.). Clients also want to know your process for completing data entry and how you will work with them to ensure the information/data collected is being input properly.

I suggest using a more conversational tone to startyour overview/summary. For example:

I am a highly skilled Data Entry Specialist with _____ years of experience producing accurate data entry that helps my clients meet deadlines and maintain quality standards. I specialize in performing data research, data collection, data aggregation, and data entry using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Spreadsheet, and Google Docs.

I type (80 wpm) and I am highly efficient, flexible, and easy to work with. I'm a fast learner and committed to completing your task accurately and on time. I can also provide short article writing, research, note taking and other data support services that benefit your business.

(You should add a little more information about your time management and organizational skills. Also talk about how you understand data privacy and the need to protect a company's proprietary data/information. )

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

If you add more details to your summary, clients will have a better understanding of your services and how you can meet their needs or solve their problems.

Good luck!

Good day. Could you please give me feedback on my profile. I'm new and need advice. Thanks.

celgins

Hi Estelle,

There is good information in your profile, but it isn't enough to convince clients to hire you. There are thousands of finance/accounting professionals here, so clients need to see the value in choosing you over them.

Your overview/summary has great experience information, but here are my recommendations to improve it:

Remove this: "Good morning/afternoon everyone, my name is Estelle." Why? Because When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space to get their attention. You want this small space to include your services, skills, and experience--not greetings and names.

Clients need to see their goals (your services) as soon as possible. As stated above, clients will only see the first 200-250 characters of your summary, so it needs to be convincing. Clients are often convince when their goals (your services) are shown. For example:

I have more than 30 years of experience in the field of accounting where I have managed accounts for small- and medium-sized business. I can prepare financial documents, reconcile supplier accounts, provide tax preparation support, perform financial analysis to assess the financial health and performance of your organization, and provide auditing and compliance tasks for your accounting or bookkeeping needs.

(Now, you can talk about your other values.)

I am a quick learner and have strong analytical skills, which have helped me in my previous roles in accurately analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports, and managing budgets. I am confident that my experience and skills will be a valuable asset to your company or organisation.

(Also mention the software applications/tools you use (i.e. QuickBooks, Xero, etc.). Talk about your time management and organizational skills, and your ability to solve administrative problems if necessary.)

Your skills and employment history look great. I recommend adding a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients.

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

Thank you

Hi Salman,

I recommend changing your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

There is some good information in your overview/summary, but you need to provide more details to convince clients to hire you. There are thousands of full-stack developers here and they all list the same skills. To stand out, you must tell clients your value and why they should hire you.

There are a few grammatical corrections needed in your first paragraph. I suggest something like this:

Are you tired of hiring software developers who finish jobs but use ineffective tools, outdated practices, and produce slow and unoptimized applications? I am a software engineer with 6 years of experience developing highly scalable and performant using the right tools. I can deliver your solutions blazingly fast using already available tools instead of reinventing the wheel to achieve more in less time.

My skills include the following:

(...)

(After listing your skills, give a brief overview of what it's like to work with you. For example:

  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback during the development process to ensure the final product meets their needs.
  • Do you provide unlimited revisions? Do you offer follow-up support after an app or web project is completed?
  • Highlight any similar projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.)

Your portfolio, certifications, and employment history look good.

You should add Full-Stack Development to your skills list since it is highly related to your work. Upwork uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

Dharmik,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary and add more relevant skills. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

Your title has too many words; use a title with only skill categories listed. For example: Content Writer or Creative Writer.

Make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and other resources:

Earmias,

Other freelancers cannot send you Connects. You must either purchase Connects or wait for your free monthly Connects to be added to your account.

I looked through your profile and you need to update every section:

Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out. However, nothing in your summary mentions data entry or data collection:

Overview/Summary: If you provide data entry services, tell clients which services you provide, your experience providing these services, and how you can help them. Then, tell clients why they should choose you over the thousands of data entry professionals here and how it benefits them.

If you prefer to provide IT support, change your title to something like IT Support Specialist and focus your summary on your IT services, how you can solve problems and why clients should choose you to meet their IT support needs.

Skills: Add more relevant skill categories to your skills list. If you provide data entry, add data entry skill categories. If IT support, add more IT support skill categories. Upwork uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

Employment History: Either remove the senior engineer job in your employment history, or add a valid job description. The information you have now is not a job description.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and other resources:
