Hello Safdar,

Your profile will be confusing to clients. Are you using Upwork to provided electrical engineering services or data entry services? You can do both, but these skill areas are unrelated, and it will confuse clients if you talk about them both in the same profile.

My suggestion is to make your main profile title Electrical Engineering. Then, use your summary to tell clients which electrical engineering services you provide and how you can help them. After that, add skill categories that focus on electrical engineering and add items to your portfolio showing examples of electrical engineering work.

Next, create a Specialized Profile that focuses on data entry. The title should be something like Data Entry Specialist. Do the same for that specialized profile: write your summary by telling clients which data entry services you can provide and how it helps them.

Once you make these updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Alven,

The best way to improve your profile is to make it 100% complete. You need to:

1) Use your overview/summary to tell clients which mechanical engineering services you provide. Tell clients what you can do and how it benefits them.

2) Add more items to your portfolio.

3) Add 15 skill categories to your skills list if they are relevant to mechanical engineering.

Your profile needs to be 100% complete before applying to jobs. Go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hello Alinoor,

I looked through your profile and I think it looks good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

A lot of freelancers—even Top-Rated and Top-Rated Plus—are finding it difficult to get profile views and responses to their proposals. Over the past year or so, competition for jobs has increased tremendously and there are fewer clients spending on new jobs. But there are still good jobs here.

Keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications/skills by writing great cover letters, and hopefully you will win that first job soon.

Hello Kerwin,

It appears that you offer multiple services and clients might be confused by your profile. Since customer service and social media management are unrelated, I think you should separate them to give prospective clients a better idea of your services.

For example:

1) You can change your main profile title to: Customer Service Representative. Then, use your overview/summary to talk about specific customer service work and how you can help clients with their customer complaints and other services.

2) Create a Specialized Profile that focuses on social media management. Use that summary to tell clients which social media services you provide and how you can help them. You do a really good job of that here:

"I can help you build your social media account whether for personal or business aspect. (e.g. Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter)"

This sentence should be the first or second sentence in your Social Media Management specialized profile.

3) Add a portfolio to show samples of your work. Since there is only one portfolio, you can add customer service items and social media management items. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients.

After you make these updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Hello Taswar,

A couple of things I noticed about your profile that I would update:

1) Your overview/summary has good information, but instead of referring to yourself as a "business leader" in the first sentence, use your skill area. Also, remove nonessential words and use that space to tell clients how you can help them. Only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients in searches, so you want clients to see their goals (deliverables) in those first two sentences. For example:

"Dynamic and results-driven Chartered Accountant with a proven track record of accomplishments in business finance, IFRSs, corporate and income tax laws, and audit & assurance. I can provide finanical analysis and modeling and develop critical analysis centered around finance/operational metrics using my expertise in Excel and Power BI dashboard and report preparation."

You do not have to use this, but you get the idea--give clients a glimpse of your services within the first two sentences.

2) Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. Since these jobs are relevant to your Upwork services, it will help match you with relevant jobs.

The other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Hi Victoriano Rex,

I looked through your profile and I think it will be confusing to clients. First, the two items in your title appear unrelated. Next, your overview/summary does not really speak to manpower recruitment. When clients see "manpower recruitment" in your title, they will expect your summary to talk about your manpower recruitment services, what you can do, and how your services will benefit them.

I suggest rewriting your title and summary to make them focused on a specific skill area. If that is manpower recruitment, tell clients about manpower recruitment and what you can do to help them or solve their problems.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to that is to go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hi all! I would like to know the feedback about my profile.

Hi Akash,

Your portfolio looks great, but you need more than that to attact clients. You need to use your overview/summary to give clients more details about your graphic design services. Tell them about your experience and background, and your work methods.

Next, you need to add more skill categories to your skills list (e.g. Flyer Design, Poster Design, etc.) It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Also, capitalize the first letter of each word in your title: Graphic Designer & Video Editor.

Finally, add a short job description to the job in your employment history.

Hi Sarla,

I think your profile looks really good. However, I have a few suggestions that might help improve it:

Overview/Summary: You have good content in your summary, but I think you should make the first paragraph more client-focused. To do this, I suggest removing extraneous words and telling clients--within the first two sentences--what you can do for them. Only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients in searches, so you want them to see their goals in those first two sentences.

Also, add a blank line between the first and second paragraph to make it easier for clients to read.

Here's an example:

I'm a senior UX/UI and Product Architect with more than 6 years of experience in UX/UI and web design. I love to create visual experiences that can improve your brand identity, generate leads, and increase your sales. I am always ready for new projects, and I am able to deliver by strict deadlines.

I’m a creative, reliable and detailed graphic designer who can work independently without too much detailed instructions. My main goal is to bring my your ideas to reality and go beyond your expectations for your users' experience. I can do this by working with you to understand your unique needs and your audience, and creating a solution that not only fits, but takes your brand to the next level.

I have expertise in creating:

(Everything after this is good.)

Portfolio: I think you should add one or two more items to your portfolio. Clients will expect to see several work examples from a UX/UI designer and the portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Skills: It is very important to update your skills list with UX/UI skill categories. You should add: UX & UI, UI/UX Prototyping, Brand Identity, Brand Identity Design, and Graphic Design. We are allowed 15 skills, so you have room to add several more. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Employment History: Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history.

The other sections of your profile look good.

Hello Saif,

I looked through your profile and the biggest issue I see is your overview/summary; there is not enough information to tell clients what you can do and how your work might benefit them. Clients come to Upwork looking for freelancers who can get results and your summary needs to show them that you can provide those results.

Maybe you can focus more on the client’s needs by answering questions a client might ask. For example:

  • "My company needs new branding. What items can Saif create?" You could say something like:

"I design logos, banners, web/mobile landing page, posters, and promotional materials like business cards, brochures, and flyers."

  • "Can Saif recommend a design for my website and other products?" You could write something like:

"I can design and develop UI/UX interfaces for your website and your products by including aspects of branding, design, usability and function. This will help your business maintain high-converting landing pages or engaging products that drive traffic to your site and promote your brand to increase sales."

  • "My company is really busy, so how much time will Saif spend developing or editing graphics and how often will he stay in contact with me to keep me updated?"

  • "There are thousands of Graphic Designers out there... why should I choose Saif?"

Your answers to questions like these can help a client better understand why they should hire you, what they will get, and how it will benefit them.

The logo item in your portfolio is great, but clients will expect to see several sample items in a graphic designer's portfolio. I recommend adding samples of flyers, banners, posters, business cards, or anything else you can design.

Also, add a short job description to each job in your employment history.

Hi Upwork Community! Please review my profile. I would love to hear your response. 🙂 https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/razelgalang

Hi Razel,

There is good information in your profile, but your overview/summary mostly focuses on your background when you should be focusing on the client. You tell a good story, but clients rarely pay attention to stories. Clients come to Upwork looking for freelancers who can get results and your summary should focus on that.

The first part of your summary is important. Only the first two sentences are shown to clients in searches, so you have a very small window of opportunity to grab their attention. Within the two-sentence window, you want clients to see some of their goals and how you can help them reach their goals.

I suggest revising the first part of your summary to focus on your medical virtual assistance services. Tell clients what you can do and how it benefits them. For example:

I am an expert Medical Virtual Assistant with experience providing health-focused support to ensure a medical facility or care center runs efficiently. I can perform administrative functions like accessing Electronic Medical Records (EMR), reviewing notes, replying to patient messages, conducting outreach, and other medical office functions.

I've worked as an Admin supervisor in a dental clinic in the United Arab of Emirates for 2 yrs, where I gained expertise in patient record analysis, dental coding, billing processes, and collaborating with various insurance companies. I can help your organization coordinate and deliver excellent patient service and clinical care using efficient medical front office duties.

As registered nurse, and a newly certified professional coder, I am excited to combine my nursing background, administrative expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit to help your organization successfully manage its medical administrative tasks. I am dedicated to making a positive impact and look forward to embracing fresh challenges with enthusiasm.

This is all I would put in the summary. The information about photography and troubleshooting hardware/softwaer is irrelevant to your medical virtual assistance, so I would consider leaving it out. Clients will only read so much, so you want them to read the most important information.

Add a few medical virtual assistance items to your portfolio. You can add sample data entry spreadsheets, sample records, coding documents, etc. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients like visuals.

The other areas of your profile look fine. Once you make the updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs.

Good luck!

celgins

MD Atikur,

Most freelancers will not receive invitations; instead, most freelancers must submit proposals to win jobs.

Your profile looks fine, but your overview/summary should start by telling clients what you can do and how you can help them. Clients come to Upwork looking for freelancers who can get results, so you have to convince them that you are the best freelancer for hire.

The first part of your summary is important. Only the first two sentences are shown to clients in searches, so you have a very small window of opportunity to grab their attention. In that two-sentence window, you want clients to see their goals and understand what you can do to help them reach their goals. You do not want to waste space with a greeting, your name, or your location; clients can see your name and location on your profile.

Finally, I think you should remove extraneous text and combine the lists into a paragraph. Here's an example:

I'm an expert Graphic Designer with experience designing high-quality graphics for businesses, educational and non-profit organizations, and individuals. I can create brochures, flyers, postcards, magazine ads, posters, business cards, letterheads, booklets, retractable banners, and other print designs.

I also provide digital designs including Facebook Ads, Google Display Ads, social media graphics, web banners, email signatures, and can design and layout annual reports, case studies, company overviews, and whitepapers.

I'm always open to taking on new and interesting projects and look forward to hearing from new clients. Feel free to review my portfolio of work and reach out if you would be interested in connecting!

That's it--short and simple, because most clients will only read two to four paragraphs.

I think your portfolio and the other areas of your profile look good. I do not see any problems that would prevent a client from hiring you.

https://www.upwork.com/en-gb/freelancers/jazzwoudstra

Hello Jazz,

The first thing I noticed about your profile is the overview/summary and how it is written. Your summary should be written from a first-person point of view. Meaning, it should include "I" and "my" and not your name as if a third-party is speaking for you.

The first part of your summary is important. Only the first two sentences are shown to clients in searches, so you have a very small window of opportunity to grab their attention. In that two-sentence window, you want clients to see their goals and understand what you can do to help them reach their goals. To do this, you have to tell clients exactly what you can do and how it will benefit them.

So, instead of talking about strengths and abilities, tell prospective clients which services a virtual assistant will provide. Here is an example:

Are you stuck managing every detail of your business administration like data entry, file maintenance, and scheduling, when you should be focusing on the bigger picture? I am a Virtual Assistant helping businesses meet their deadlines and maintain quality standards. I can help you with data collection, data entry, office administration, copy editing, and more.

I excel in written communication and I create templates, forms, and other documentation for external correspondence, and provide proofreading and editing copy, ensuring consistent brand identity. I can work with your organization to create and maintain team process documents and resources with the necessary focus on attention to detail and high-level, clear communication.

My organisational abilities have proven to be highly efficient and I have supporte 437 local good causes while successfully ensuring the high-level performance of my administrative team, delivering multiple projects such as implementing a new CRM system and contributing to discussions of operational improvements.

You do not have to keep this structure, but the idea is the same--tell prospective clients what you can do and how it might benefit their business.

Also, add a portfolio to show samples of your work. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

The other areas of your profile look fine. After you make the suggested updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs or solve their problems.

Hi Blessing,

It appears that you made a few changes since the review of your profile on May 21.

Since you are providing services as a Cold Caller, I think you should talk about your cold calling services early in your summary. In fact, you should tell clients what you can help them with in the first two sentences. Only the first two sentences are shown to clients in searches, so you have a very small window of opportunity to grab their attention. For example:

I am a dedicated cold caller who is always striving to improve my skills and learn new techniques. I can help you achieve a high conversion rate through my effective lead generation, appointment setting, customer support, market research, and telemarketing strategies.

I have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, which helps me to stay motivated and productive. I am a team player who is always willing to help my colleagues and support the company's goals. I am confident that I can make a positive contribution to any organization I work with.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you and working together to achieve your business goals.

There are probably more skill categories you can add to your skills list. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's job. Focus on the client's specific points in their job description; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their requirements.

Good luck!

Hi Carmen,

I looked through your profile and I think it's great. However, I think you need to get the word "expert" in your overview/summary. For example:

I'm an expert Advertising and Marketing leader with 10+ years of experience executing multi-channel campaigns and initiatives for global brands, including Hilton Worldwide, Sprint, Johnson & Johnson, and Tampico Beverages to name a few. I am proficienf in client services, project management, and operations, and I have extensive knowledge of traditional, digital, and experiential advertising with the ability to lead and collaborate with creative, production, and media teams to execute complex, time-sensitive projects.

Hello Rafshan,

Clients looking at your profile will be confused about the services you offer. Data entry, marketing, teaching and research are all unrelated, and your summary does not adequately explain which services you provide.

I suggest using your main profile to focus on one skill area (either marketing, data entry, teaching, or research). Then, add one or two Specialized Profiles that focuses on other services.

Clients are looking for freelancers with specific skills, so if you say you are a marketing professinal, use your summary to talk about your marketing services. If you say you are a data entry specialist, use you summary to talk about data entry services.

The same process applies to your skills list. If your profile focuses on marketing, choose skill categories related to marketing. If your main or specialized profile focuses on data entry, choose skill categories related to data entry.

You should also add a portfolio to show samples of your work or skills. Clients like visuals, so anything that represents your services will work.

Once you make these updates, I think clients will have a better understanding of the services you offer and how you can help meet their needs.
