I'm not sure who Saman is, but any freelancer can offer to review your profile.

I looked through your profile and I have a few suggestions that might help improve your overview/summary.

You use the phrase "I will try" or "I will always try" a few times in your summary, and this is not what potential clients want to hear. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can meet those needs. Instead of telling clients that you will try, tell them that you will "do" and get results.

Also, there are grammatical corrections needed in the first part of your summary.

Chayan,

It's standard practice to write your own profile yourself. This is the Internet. So, it's difficult to get to know someone, which makes this tricky. Clients like to hire people and if you have someone else write your profile, you miss the opportunity for clients to get to know you. If you were a large company, that would be different. But you're only one person. Someone else writing your profile also leaves open a lot of questions. Can't you write at all? If you can't write, how can you be offering the services you claim you are good at? Those kinds of questions can hold you back.

Edwin,

For quite a while in your profile it is hard to tell exactly what service or services you are selling. You say you're great at financial entrepreneurship, which is very vague. You then say your great at marketing and video editing, so before you establish any expertise in financial entrepreneurship and before you tell us what that means you are moving onto other things in which your credibility seems pretty low.

You should figure out exactly what you are selling. It doesn't help to go for broad definitions. It's better to say "I'm an expert at streamling suply chains," that it is to say, "I'm a great businessman." A great businessman (financial entreprveneurship) doesn't really tell us what we need to know.

Be careful spreading yourself too thin. The rule of thumb for freelancing is you have to be an expert -- tops in your field -- before stepping out on your own. This isn't just whistling Dixie. It follows, then, that people can only really be an expert in one thing. To say you are an expert financial manager and then say, oh, I'm also an expert visual designer," kind of interrupts your credibility. The unwritten rule is stick to the one thing you do best.

There a lot of people on Upwork who spread themselves too thin. But you have to ask yourself if you'd rather get a lot of work in one specialty or very little work in a diverse group of specialties. Yes, you could be the exception to the rule. I reccommend you give it a few months and if you're still not getting any jobs, rethink your business plan. (You're the business expert ... I probably don't have to tell you any of this.)

Good evening, I am Nader Ahmed, an experienced graphic designer. I'm new to UpWork and would like your feedback on my profile. Thank you very much.😊

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Nader,

Welcome to Upwork.

The first thing you should do is change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

The rest of your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

Remove "i'am a designer , my name is " Nader Ahmed"  and provide more details about your graphic design experience, and your process for working with clients to gather requirements and undestand their needs. Then, tell clients which tools/software you use and give more reasons why they should choose you.

Also, you should add more samples to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients will expect more from a grahpic designer.

Then, add more skill categories to your skills list. You should add categories like Social Media Graphic, Logo Design, Brand Design, and any others related to your work.

Hi Maryam,

You can't really advertise your services in the forums, but your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public if you want other freelancers to review it.

Thanks.

Hello,

I've been away from UpWork for a while, but I'm looking to jump back in and get my freelance work rolling again. Would you be kind enough to check my profile and pass along any tips?

Regards,

Ken

Hello Ken,

Welcome back.

I think your profile looks great, so you left it in good shape. Another professional freelancer writer (Anthony H) is often here, so he might show up and provide some valuable input at some point.

Two things I think you should consider (the first is more important than the second):

1) Upwork uses the skill categories in your skills list to match you with relevant jobs and to help your profile appear in search results. With that, you should update your skills list by adding any categories related to your writing services. For example, you should consider adding Writing, Blog Writing, and any others related to your work.

2) You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

How much do you want to rate the cover letter? maybe the rating will be low. But I'm here to learn from professionals.

Thank you.

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Nazmul Islam,

One good thing about this cover letter is its length; it's concise, which many clients will appreciate. Unfortunately, this cover letter doesn't offer much more beyond that.

This cover letter never gives clients a glimpse of how you can solve their problems. Simply mentioning the job title (React/Node JS Developer) is not enough to show your understanding. You must provide a few details that show you understand their requirements (or their problem), and how you can meet their specific requirements or solve the problem mentioned in the job description.

Other tips:

  • Don't start a cover letter with "Have a good day." This phrase is interpreted differently around the world, and is often used during a departure--not an introduction.

  • Don't mention "proposal" ("As per your proposal"). The client creates a job description or a job offer, but this is not considered a proposal.

  • Don't talk about your ability to learn or your process for learning ("I used to explore documentation to get a better comprehension"); it makes it sound as if you are not qualified and need to learn in order to do the job.

  • Try not to use slang terms in your cover letter (i.e., "I have done several projects that I wanna show" should be "I have completed several projects for your review.")

Hello, I'm Thiago Nosch and I am a IT infrastructure professional.

I would like to kindly ask you to take a look at my profile fell free to tell me anywhere i need to make fix. I´m open to feedbacks if are willing to give.

Hello Thiago,

Normally, shorter titles are better, but I think you should use Systems Administration & Network Administration. The reason is because Upwork uses your title and skill categories to help match you with relevant jobs. Basically, they're keywords/keyphrases and you want that keyphrase "systems administration" to be part of your title.

There is a slight grammatical error in the second sentence of your overview/summary. I would revise it like this: "Certified in MS Teams, CompTIA Linux+ and Azure, I specialize in Office 365 services like Exchange, SharePoint OneDrive and in managing Office 365 environment."

Your portfolio, skills list, and project catalog look good, and your certfications and employment history look great.

Hello,

I have been on and off Upwork for a while. I have updated my two profiles. I might be changing both once again (I mean in terms of what I would like to do).

Here are the links to my profiles: https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/christinas55?viewMode=1 and https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/christinas55?viewMode=1&s=1017484851352698924

If you have any issues with either links, please let me know. I also want to know what is the best way to write a proposal. I was going to ask for a template, but one that is not generic. I need one that has the format as to what I should write in the introductory, middle and conclusion of the proposal. I am a writer who has trouble trying to tell themselves.

If you have any questions, please feel free to comment on here.

You can go here. They'll likely transfer this post there anyway. There are tons of experienced freelancers providing input.

Samer is always providing assistance as well. He is a very experienced, top rated business owner. You can get feedback and answers to your questions at the link below.

Me personally. You may want your job title to be your actual profession and take what you have there and make it your tag line. Maybe add some bullet points to your bio to focus on your strengths and make it a little more engaging. I would definitely add more portfolio items to at least fill out the page.
