Hi Christina,
Your main profile and both specialized profiles look fine, but visibility is an issue here on Upwork. With millions of freelancer profiles floating about, it's hard to get attention--even after sending proposals.
Since you're in the podcasting realm, I think your profile could be improved significantly if you add more sample podcasts--especially any video podcasts. With eight years in the game, I'm sure you have a few more audio clips you can add to your portfolio. And, I really think the addition of one or two video podcasts would be great.
I just searched for freelancers using keywords: "podcast editor," "podcast producer," "podcast production and editing," "podcast editing," "podcast post production," etc. and almost all of the 30 profiles I viewed had full portfolios (i.e., five or six audio/video podcast samples). Your video introduction is good and the Audio Demo Reel MP3 in your portfolio is good, but if I were a client seeking a podcast guru, I would want to hear/see more.
You're not the only writer who has trouble piecing together certain material--it happens to all writers! 😀 Since there isn't one way to write a proposal and guarantee a response, there probably isn't a "best" way to approach it. Here's one method I've used before:
1) Acknowledge the job you are applying for and its requirements.
2) Highlight your qualifications.
3) Address specific points in the job by briefly explaining how you can meet the client's needs or solve their problem.
4) End with an action item: request the client reach out to discuss their project or request an Upwork Zoom call.
I always recommend cover letters be concise, but it really depends on the complexity of the job your applying to.
For more tips on cover letters, read through Upwork's best practices on How To Write a Cover Letter

Hello,
Sorry for the late reply. All my podcasts are approx. close to 45 minutes in length. But, I do have video samples of my podcast that I use to promote it on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. And I do have a portfolio on Adobe Portfolio that I can use.

Your profile looks great to me, Just a lot of competition here on Upwork with millions of freelancers. As far as proposals go, Personally, I just send them a message as if I were sending someone an email, I don't use any template or copy/paste. Just tell them I'm very interested and how I can help them with their project, etc. 😄

Abubeker,
Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the forums, but they do not provide profile reviews. Other freelancers offer to review profiles and provide feedback.
I looked at your profile and I have a few recommendations:
1) Remove the first line of your overview/summary: ":white_heavy_check_mark:TOP RATED PLUS ELITE YOUTUBE SCRIPT WRITER :white_heavy_check_mark:" First, you shouldn't say you are top-rated when your profile doesn't show a top-rated freelancer. Second, this line wastes valuable space because clients see only the first two sentences of your summary when searching for freelancers. You want clients to see more important information.
2) The rest of your summary needs more information to convince clients to hire you. You do a good job of listing things you can write for clients, but now you should talk about your experience; talk about your process for working with clients; and tell clients why they should choose you over other Youtube Content writers.
3) Add a short job description to the job at Etcare in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork. The job title should probably be Senior Content Writer.

Hi! I am a newcomer. Please take a look at my profile. I would be grateful for any advice on how to improve it.
Nov 22, 2023 11:01:45 PM by Clark S
Hi Natallia,
I looked through your profile and I have a few suggestions that might help improve it.
Hourly Rate: Even though you are beginning in as a functional tester, the skill set probably requires a higher rate. Also, your rate will look more appealing if it ends in ".00." I searched for other QA/software test engineers in Lithuania, and no one was under $8.00/hr. I recommend you make your rate at least $8.00/hr.
Title: You are being honest with your title, but I suggest not using the word "Junior." Even with little experience as a test engineer, you are likely to get more attention if you title is Functional Test Engineer.
Overview/Summary: Your summary needs more information to convince clients to hire you. With little experience as a test engineer, your summary should give specific examples of the services you can provide; the processes you can use to meet a clients' needs or solve their problems; and the reasons why a client should choose you.
Also--similar to your title--I recommend removing the word "beginner" from your summary. I believe most clients look for experienced freelancers, but many will hire freelancers will little experience. But the word "beginner" often sounds as if you have no experience or skills.
Here is an example of how I would improve the first part of your summary:
I am skilled Functional Testing Engineer with a diverse technical background and a strong analytical mindset. I can conduct requirement analysis, test planning, test case design, and execute regression tests, API tests, performance tests, user experience (UX) tests, and more.
With knowledge of various software methodologies (i.e., SDLC, STLC, BLC), my goal is to ensure your software applications or systems function as intended and meet their specified requirements. I recently completed Software Testing Laboratory at EPAM Systems and received practical experience on internal projects.
I also have 12 years experience in internal audits of accounting, business processes, and developed and supported Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) for three enterprises. This experience strengthens my functional testing approach as both require a keen eye for details and a commitment to excellence.
My skills and services include: Functional Testing · API Testing · Postman · Swagger · Mobile Testing · Android Studio · Localization Testing · SQL · MS sql · PostgreSQL · pgAdmin · HTML· XML · JSON · CSS · Git BASH · Test IO · Jira · Figma · Miro · DevTools · Agile Methodologies · Scrum · Kanban · C++ · Java
Let's talk about your testing projects and how I can help. |
Your portfolio has good examples and your skills list has good, relevant skill categories.
Once you update your summary, I think clients will have a better idea of how you can help them.
Good luck!

Hi,
Could anyone guide me on:
How many projects can we display on our profile? What I mean is I have experience in Data Entry/Content Writing/Web and Graphic designing. So can I display all 3 with portfolios along with my main profile, so that it will be displayed in 4 different pages which the clients can view clicking on any of the 4 buttons. I am a bit confused.

Hi Rani,
I would be happy to help. You may want to check the "Add Portfolio Items" section in this help article to better understand how to add a portfolio to your profile. Let us know if you have further questions.

Hi Imelda,
Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.
Your summary needs to focus specifically on the writing services you offer. Don't spend time talking about your ability to learn, your ideas, your dedication, or your enthusiasm. Instead, tell clients exactly what you can write and how your writing will meet their needs. Freelance writing is a broad topic, and clients need to know if you can write articles, blogs, e-books, essays, product descriptions, etc.
After you tell clients what you can write, tell them about your approach to writing and how you will work with them to understand their needs. Tell them if you research topics and your process for delivering results. Remember--you are competing with hundreds of thousands of writers, so clients need a reason to choose you.
Also, add a few writing samples to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and potential clients will want to get an idea of your writing style. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Desiree,
Ten years of experience is great, but I don't think it's your strongest opening. And you need your absolute strongest opening possible on Upwork to compete. It's how the system works. Clients looking for you will only see the first sentence or two of your profile right away. So you don't have time to waste.
You have to establish your expertise immediately. Why? If you're an expert, clients looking for an architect/designer will want to hear what you have to say. If you're not an expert, they won't need to hear any more. They'll look for someone who is an expert and pass you by.
That said, find an opening like, "I am an expert architect/designer who has worked with top-brand companies, such as Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein."
This immediately tells people you are an expert and also differentiates you from all others, because very, very few can say they worked with such impressive clients.
You have very, very strong skills and a very impressive background. You should really get that message out right away. When you say "10 years experience," it's great. You should absolutey say that.. But it doesn't jump off the page. Telling people right away that you're a multidimensional expert with an impressive list of former clients does jump off the page. At least, it does for me.

Hello everyone!
I am new to Upwork and I would appreciate some feedback on my profile.
I work as a virtual assistant specialized in social media content, content writing, and graphic design, while I am also an illustrator and fine artist. Is it clear and is my pricing realistic? So far I have worked mostly as an employee or assistant while now I am aiming to become a freelancer.
My profile is https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~017a5eb5d15f9173ea
Thank you!

Lana,
Freelancing works best if there's one specific skill that you can do better than anybody. With freelancing, you work for yourself so if you're just getting by you will make a mistake and there's nobody to catch you (but yourself) if you stumble. You should not be proficient at what you do; you should be an absolute expert.
You've listed three things you can do and you don't sound all that confident. Can you narrow that down to one task and tell us you are so good at it that you can guarantee the work? You can certainly try to advertise yourself as proficient in three different tasks, but there are 17 million members on Upwork, so there's way too much competition to be mediocre. You are competing with literally millions of others, many of which call themselves experts. You have to be at their level to compete on Upwork.

Hello Anthony,
Thank you for your feedback.
I do not think most freelancers are "absolute experts" in the academic sense, but just people with practical knowledge to get the work done. Some soft skills, some listening skills, and a lot of effort make wonders. I keep it that simple. On most of my jobs I had to be interdisciplinary rather than a specialist.
Also, I am not offering a wide set of services, but a specific thing - social media content, for which I can write, design, illustrate, and tell stories. It is often reffered to as Virtual Assistance so I go with that term.
If I do not sound confident, what should I do in order to sound so, because I definitely do feel confident?
Cheers,
Lana
