Warning: I'm a newbie with boundless enthusiasm and a keyboard that can't keep up. But hey, fresh perspectives often lead to brilliant ideas, right? Please have a look at my profile. 👀

Oana,

I love your approach, but it's an uphill battle to approach the writer's market that way.

The deal is that 90 percent of the paid writing jobs are for content, blogs or SEO articles and most of them dislike creative writers. They want writers who can produce clear, informative copy. Creative writing is fine and you always have that option, but 90 percent of the publishers don't want to hear that from you.

Have you ever heard of the professional writing rule, KISS? That stands for "Keep It Simple, Stupid."  So don't advertise your creativity; just work that in on your own without making a big deal about it.

The other 10 percent of the writing market is fiction writing, where creativity is a plus. But the competition for those jobs is fierce. There are almost 2 million writers on Upwork and many of them are gunning for fiction work. That's just a lot of competition and most publishers won't take on a writer without proven experience.

It's up to you, but I suggest you start with content writing and blogs. Those are the place where almost all writers start.

All that said, publishers don't pay you for your boundless enthusiasm, either. Again, it's terrific to be enthusiastic, but what publishers want to hear is "I can produce error-free copy that will be informative and appealing to your readers." Again, it's fine to be enthusiastic, but I wouldn't try to sound like that in you profile. It makes you sound like a novice and they are looking for writers with experience.

On top of that, you have to learn to edit your own work. Use Grammarly religiously if you have to. In your profile, you misspelled the word "writer." You wrote "I" in a small case: ("i").  Publishers will certainly be concerned about that. With all the apps and software these days, publishers now expect no mistakes.

Good luck.

Yeasin,

Overall, I think your profile looks good. Your overview/summary is quite long and most clients will not read it all. The good thing is, the first part of your summary does a good job of telling clients the services you provide and why they should hire you.

Everything else looks good. I do not see any huge issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Good luck!

Hi Fikir,

The first thing you should do is change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Your profile is quite empty, so you need to start with the following Academy Courses and other resources:

Wendy,

What it sounds like you are doing is looking for a job. Freelancing is different. With freelancing, you start by figuring out a specific skill that you enjoy and a specific problem that you can solve with that skill.

Just saying, "Plug me in ... I have a lot of experience at many things," is not the voice of a freelancer. A freelancer says, "I am an expert business consultant focusing on supply chain issues with proven experience in cutting production costs and reducing redundancies ..."

That's very specific, offered as a service. What specific problem can you solve for someone else? That's where you start.

Secondly, you have to be an expert or pose as one. There's too much competition to be "pretty good" at something. Further, freelancers traditionally are experts. You work in advertising for 20 years and come to the conclusion, "Hey, I know enough now to do this on my own." You don't get to that point after two years in advertising unles you are extremely precocious or somewhat narcissistic. Going on your own means no employer backing you up. So going into freelance unprepared is a disaster waiting to happen.

Know your skill set. Know the market.  Put aside enough money to buy time to become established ... that's the standard route for freelancing.

Sound reasonable?

Good luck.

Jozias,

Good start to your profile.

You should add a blank line between paragraphs in your overview/summary to make it easier for clients to read. Also, add more information to show your value to clients. For example:

  • Tell clients how you will communicate with them throughout a project to ensure the final product meets their needs.
  • Do you offer follow-up support after a Project is completed?
  • Mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Highlight any similar projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Also talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Clients looking for data science professionals will find many of them on Upwork. The question is, do they have enough good reasons to hire Jozias? The information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

Your portfolio video, skills, certification, and employment history look good.

My name is  Md Shahinur Alam, an SEO Expert in Bangladesh. I have been SEM services for local Clients. Right now, I hope that Upwork approves my project. Please, Anybody, review my profile and feedback suggestion Cordiaiy.               Best Regards,                                                                                                                                                                                                        Md Shahinur Alam                                                                                                                                                **Edited for Community Guidelines**

Md Shahinur,

Your profile overview/summary does not have enough information to convince clients to hire your. There are hundreds of thousands of SEO marketing professionals on Upwork, so you must give clients several reasons to choose you.

First, remove this: "Hi. My name is Md Shahinur Alam," Why? Because it wastes valuable space. When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space to get their attention. You want this small space to include important words (i.e., your services, skills, and experience)--not greetings or names.

The first part of your summary needs to start much simpler. Be sure sure to use a grammar checker to create better written content.

I help businesses by applying SEO marketing best practices to WordPress websites where I conduct On-page, Off-page, and technical SEO services to drive growth. As an SEO Marketing expert, I can help drive organic growth and maximize online visibility for your business.

You should probably use clearer images in your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients will appreciate website and SEO samples in your portfolio. Many clients will not click links to view off-line portfolios or websites.

MD Rone,

Your profile looks good, but I still suggest removing the greeting and your name from the first sentence of your overview/summary, as suggested in the previous profile review here.

Change "Why chosen Me?" to "Why choose me?"

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.
