Hello Maurine,

I looked through your profile and I think it looks good. However, your overview/summary focuses on your skills and never tells clients how you can help them. Your experience and skills are great, but you must tell clients which services you provide and how it benefits them. Here's an example:

Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and NAV technical consultant with over 10 years of experience implementing, customizing, and supporting Microsoft Dynamics solutions for businesses. I can help you manage finances, operations, sales, and customer interactions in one integrated platform.

After that, add more client-focused value to your summary:

  • Tell clients how you communicate with them and gather feedback to ensure the final deliverables meet their needs.
  • Mention that you stay informed of the latest developments, trends, and emerging technologies in business management solutions.
  • Highlight any Business Central projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Clients will find plenty of professionals with Business Center and NAV skills and experience, so they need more reasons to choose you, and the information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

I think you should add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Your certifications and employment history look great.

Good luck!

Anas,

Pricing your services at $5 per hour is going to make clients nervous. They want a confident bookkeeper, not one who is just skating by.

Raise your rates. Check the competition and choose a rate somewhere in the middle.

Hi Everyone

I am new here and not getting projects. Is anyone help me to overcome this and review my profile.

Thanks

Hi Muhammad Umar,

A profile review won't necessarily help you get a job on Upwork. The review is design to offer feedback and suggestions on things you can improve.

Right now, your profile is not set to Public. You must set your profile to Public so we can see it.

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, someone could give me some feedback about my profile, please? ๐Ÿ™

Thanks!

Hi Marilu,

Buenos Aires is a lovely city! Welcome to Upwork!!!

Based on the guidelines in this article, here are some suggestions:

Positive points:

1. Clear introduction: You provide a clear introduction.

2. Relevant skills: Your profile mentions skills and areas of expertise, which helps clients understand yours capabilities.

3. Experience: The profile highlights your experience in the field, which can instill confidence in potential clients.

4. Client-focused approach: You mention commitment to delivering high-quality work and meeting client expectations.

Points you may want to improve:

1. Lack of specific examples: You could benefit from including specific examples of past projects or accomplishments to showcase your abilities.

2. Personal touch: The profile text could be enhanced by adding a personal touch, such as sharing a bit about your background or passion for your work.

My Recommendations:

My top recommendation (worked very well for me): For beginners, it is crucial to focus on earning positive reviews. Therefore, I recommend to start by taking on simple and quick projects, even at a lower rate, with the goal of delivering excellent work and earning great reviews.

1. Add specific examples: Include specific examples of past projects or achievements to demonstrate your skills and expertise.

2. Personalize the profile: Share a brief personal story or anecdote to make your profile more engaging and relatable to potential clients.

3. Use formatting techniques: Break up the profile text into sections with clear headings or bullet points to improve readability.

I hope this helps.

Wishing you much success,
Fabrรญcio

Marilu,

Look around Upwork and find other marketing specialists and see how they sell themselves. You could get some good ideas that way.

Generally, Upwork clients are looking for results. If you do marketing, you should be able to describe previous work you've done and explain how that turned out. Did profits go up? Did brand awarness increase? How did you pull that off in the past.

Just to say so, clients really don't hire people because they are passionate about their work. In the first place, to some degree, everyone is passionate about their work, so it doesn't mean all that much to say something like that. Try to aim for information that people hiring marketers want. What are the skills they are looking for? What problems of theirs can you solve?

I also wouldn't just throw the word "actress" in your job title unless you plan to sell your skills as an actress. You just kind of tag that word on their out of nowhere. It is pretty confusing to clients to say "Marketer and actress," anyway, so it's usually advised to choose one or the other, but not both.

Good luck.

Adesoye,

I normally tell freelancers to avoid using their names at the beginning of their overview/summary, but your summary provides a lot of good information for clients, so it probably doesn't hurt too much. However, you can maximize the beginning of your summary by removing: "I'm Adesoye Lekan."

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

The other sections of your profile look good.

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

Yirgalem,

Your profile title needs to make sense to clients. If you are providing customer relationship services, use a skill area like Customer Relationship Specialist or Customer Relationship Manager.

Remove "MY PROFESSIONAL PROFILE" from the beginning of your summary. Use your summary to tell clients which customer relationship services you provide. Right now, you mention data collection and data entry, but these are not related to customer service. You also mention "facilitation, aftercare, monitoring, and evaluation of investment projects"--none of which are directly related to customer relationship services.

Provide examples of your customer relationship services; tell clients your process for delivering customer relationship services; mention the software tools you use to management customer relationships; and talk about your ability to meet challenges and solve provlems as it relates to customer relationship management.

Everything after "PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE" will be confusing to clients because the words do not form a complete sentence.

Add relevant skill categories to your skills list. Computer is generic and provides little to identify your customer relationship skills.

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Hello

I am new at Up Work community, please can you have a look at my profil and give me some feedback about my profile.

Thank you

Amira,

I think you have to explain yourself using clearer terms. I don't know what a "Doctor in Multilingual Strategic and Legal Monitoring" means. I've never heard of that. Is that a normal job title?

You then say you have developed your skills through "specialized academic studies." That sounds pretty fancy, but no one can guess what you mean by that. It's just not clear what that you are refering to.

Clients are very wary on the Internet. They already tend to not trust what they read, so you have to make it very specific and clear. Clients also want to know what they are getting for their money and being vague like this won't help very much. You also say "various documents," which is very vague and "legal monitoring," which I have never heard of before.

Try to make the language clearer. Good luck.

Hey Muhammad,

I suggest removing the first line from your overview/summary:

When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want this small space to include important words (i.e., your services, skills, and experience)--not greetings, emojis, your name, or repeated words from your title.

Be sure to add other relevant skill categories to your skills list. Web Development is highly related to your services and should be added. Upwork uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

The other sections of your profile look good.

Bhoomikk,

Your profile looks good, but you need a few more examples in your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and clients will expect to see several design samples from a web developer.

Here is my profile can you please review it and let me know what kind of changes I need to make to my profile

Hi Darshan,

Analyzing your profile based on the guidelines for creating successful profiles on Upwork, here's my feedback:

Positive Aspects:

Clear Skills: Youโ€™ve listed a broad range of skills and technologies, emphasizing your versatility.

Client Focus: Highlighting client satisfaction as a top priority showcases your dedication.

Service Range: Offering from coding to full website development demonstrates your comprehensive capabilities.

Improvements and Recommendations:

1. Organize Profile: Structure your profile into sections (Introduction, Skills, Experience, Offerings) for better readability.

2. Introduce Yourself: Begin with a brief introduction about your passion and experience in web development.

3. Showcase Projects: Mention specific projects youโ€™ve worked on to illustrate your experience.

4. Highlight USP: Define what sets you apart from other developers.

I'd recommend taking on smaller projects โ€” even at lower prices โ€” to build your Upwork reputation through positive reviews ๐Ÿ™‚

Wishing you all the best,

Hi Diego,

I looked through your profile and I think it looks great. Your overview/summary is a bit long, but it gives clients enough information to understand your skills, expertise, and how you can help them.

Your portfolio, skills, certifications, and employment history look good too.

Good luck!

Jackson,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. You must complete your profile by adding more details about your data entry services.

Your title does not mention data entry. If you are providing data entry services, use a title like Data Entry Specialist.

Your overview/summary starts with a greeting and your name--this is a waste of space. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can meet those needs. Your summary should start with the data entry services you provide; your skills/background providing data entry services; and a brief overview of how you can help clients with your data entry services.

Remove phrases like "...hunger to learn and grow." Client's don't care about your growth or goals; they only care about the help you can provide to them. Focus on your data entry services and what you can do to meet the client's needs.

Your skills list should contain the Data Entry skill category.

Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you donโ€™t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Finally, change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Muzammil,

Welcome to Upwork.

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary and add more relevant skills. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

Clients looking for graphic designers will find a million of them on Upwork. The question is, do they have enough good reasons to choose you? The information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them. For example:

  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback during a project to ensure the final product meets their needs.
  • Do you provide unlimited revisions? Do you offer follow-up support after a design project is completed?
  • Mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Highlight any graphic design projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Add Graphic Design to your skills list since it's highly relevant to your services. Upwork uses these skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Good luck!

Hi, hoping that someone will give feedback on what my profile needs to get noticed by clients. I am aiming to land a job here at upwork!

celgins
Community Member

Hi Rizalie,

I think your profile overview/summary needs more information to convince clients to hire you. You have the skills and experience, but clients need to know which services you provide and how you can help them.

It is important to mention your services as soon as possible. When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want clients to see their goals (your services) in this small space. Here is an example with unnecessary text removed and services added:

Registered nurse working as a clinical auditor with almost nine years of experience in quality record reviews. I can ensure the quality and safety of healthcare services by evaluating and monitoring your clinical practices and processes. I conduct objective reviews of healthcare practices and procedures, and  identify areas for improvement

I can work independently or in a group to organize work effectively and efficiently. I will help ensure your organization adheres to standards of care, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.

You can change the words to fit your style or services, but you get the general idea--give specific examples of your services and tell clients how you can help them. Then, add a little more information about your work processes so that clients understand what they will get by choosing you. For example:

  • Give a few more details on how you manage an auditing project.
  • Tell clients how you communicate and gather feedback to ensure they're satisfied with your services.
  • Mention your time management and organizational skills.
  • Highlight any clinical auditing projects you have worked on and your accomplishments.
  • Talk about your ability to meet business challenges and adapt to changing or new requirements if necessary.

Clients are looking for reasons to choose you and the information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.

The item in your portfolio looks good, but be sure to add skill categories to the item. Upwork uses skill categories in your portfolio and skills listto match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.

Add more details in the job descriptions in your employment history. A job description doesn't need to be long, but a few sentences will improve it. The job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the clinical auditing services you provide on Upwork.

Good luck!

Hi Noor,

Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators provide valuable information to freelancers and moderate the forums, but they do not provide profile reviews. Other freelancers offer to review profiles and provide feedback.

I looked through your profile and I have a few suggestions that might help improve it:

I recommend removing the emojis and text in the first line of your overview/summary:

celgins_1-1709498665578.png

When clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-250 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want this small space to include important words (i.e., your services, skills, and experience)--not emojis or irrelevant statements.

The rest of your summary offers several skills and services, but I think clients would also like to know what it's like to work with you. For example:

  • Do you have specific processes or templates you have used to provide these services?
  • Talk about your attention to detail and accuracy, and how you maintain quality standards when working with client documents.
  • Also talk about your time management and organizational skills, and which tools/applications you are familiar with.
  • Do you have any other strengths beyond skills/services that may help clients see the value in choosing you?

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Good luck!

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out as a newcomer to this platform, and I would greatly appreciate your assistance in reviewing my profile. Your feedback is invaluable to me, and I truly need it urgently. Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Maira,

It's not clear what service you are selling. I'm not even sure what service a chemist can sell over the Internet, given the work here is 99.9 percent done remotely. Do you plan to read or write reports? Do you plan on doing research for chemists? What is it that you can do remotely that has a reasonable demand?

One thing to think of (you may be way ahead of me on this) is to think of what every chemistry departmenbt does that most people hate doing. Is there one very tedious or very time-consuming chore that chemists don't like doing? That's the kind of thing that lends itself nicely to the freelance environment.

Again, you might be way ahead of me on this, but it wasn't clear to me what service you were offering. You need a sentence that says, "I am an expert _______________, educated at _____________, who can _______________solve this problem for you."

That needs to be clear to your clients.

Good luck.

Hello Trenten,

Welcome to Upwork.

If you plan to provide customer service through Upwork, your profile overview/summary must clarify the services you can provide and how you will help clients.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. The best way to complete your profile is to go through the following Academy Courses and other resources:

Please have a look at my profile, I am only 2 days old on Upwork ๐Ÿ™‚

Amy,

You've kind of fallen into a freelance trap. If you were applying for a general office job, an employer would find a very bright, capablle, quick learner with several skills to offer right out of the gate. You would be very valuable to a company that needed an all-purpose assistant.

Freelance is the exact opposite of that. Freelancers who specialize in one particular skill get a lot of practice, learn the market for that skill very well, can price themselves according to scale (which is to their advantage) and, in time, really claim to be experts -- but only at that  one specific skill.

So, they can earn a fair amount, depending on the skill, because that's all they do. And, unfortunately, there are 12 million freelancers on Upwork alone, so finding someone who specializes in transcripts is apt to be much faster and more efficient than someone like you, who can do many things well, but isn't focused on one thing.

It's also a difficult sell as a freelancer to say you can do several things. Freelancers are expected to be experts, because they work alone without a safety net. There's no employer to back them up. So, when you say you do translations, know how write, can perform data entry, it doesn't always come off the way you think. You sound scattered, not valuable.

So, that's a long way of saying  you should try to focus on the one thing that has a solid market that you can excel at instead of five different things that leaves you at the bus stop every time.

You write well and your profile reads just fine if you want to keep it that way. Maybe just give it a few months and see what happens. There are excepttions to every rule.

Good luck.

Requita,

When you say "office work," it would help if you spelled that out. Let clients know what tasks you can do and how proficient you are at each of them. "Office work," otherwise, could mean a lot of things and the profile is a good place to clairify that stuff.

The same goes for "customer service." There are many types of customer service. Are you good at explaning things? Are you patient with customers? Have you ever done telephone service work?

Basically, you need to be more convincing. There is too much competition on Upwork for you to just let it go with a short, breezy write-up.

Good luck.
