Fixed it, made my profile public. Can you please review it now?

Thank you

Shyam, your profile reads well. Here are few suggestions: 1) Consider developing specialized profile. At present, it reads the same as 'all work'. 2) Is it possible to get testimonials from previous employers? 3) Consider developing some prepackaged projects/Catalogs. A potential client would get a better sense of what you excel at. (e.g. Developing landing pages $500 etc.)

I would not put information about discount upfront. If I like a project and its cause (e.g. helping children or rescue animals/shelters), offering a discount is always an option. But I do not use it as a client acquisition strategy.

Good luck, with some patience and diligence, I am sure you will get some good projects on this platform.

Thank you so much Aditi for your valuable advise. I will definitely implement it to improve my profile.

Can I please get some constructive criticism on my profile? I am new here.

Marcus, your profile is not public.

My apologies, it is now public

Marcus, your profile reads well. 1) Is it possible to develop a portfolio? I am not familiar with your domain of work but when I looked at other profiles with the same jobtitle as yours, I see freelancers posting portfolios. It would be difficult to compete without a portfolio. Consider this article for tips: https://www.upwork.com/resources/4-ways-create-successful-freelancer-portfolio 2) Is it possible to develop few catalog/prepackaged products for most commonly needed services? (e.g. 5 hours of consultation for Geodatabase design for $XXX )

Good luck, with a bit of patience, you will find projects that you enjoy.

Thank you for your reply.

  1.  Yes, I am actually working on one now. That makes a lot of sense since I am in a visual-heavy domain.
  2. Possibly, but the work is so nuanced that it may be difficult to create a package. Are you referring to if a client is searching for someone to hire on their own?

Marcus, I am referring to https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058234233-Get-Started-with-Project-Catalog

Yes, it may not be possible to create a catalog in all fields. But I'd encourage you to explore that possibility. You might get some ideas from other freelancers working in your domain.

Hi,

I am new to Upwork. Created my profile with professional profile pics, added portfolio items. Some work is really simple for me to do. But unfortunately, I am not getting orders or a call for an interview. Can any pls take look at my profile? Or is there any issue to get a call that I did not notice?

Thank you

Hi I think I could use some help with my profile. Greatly appreciated!

Brandon, Excellent! your profile reads well! I don't see any major or critical changes for getting started.

One suggestion- Given the travel restrictions at present, your profile gives an impression that your services are for NJ and around only. Upwork clients often have geographically distributed teams. Are there any products/services for a client in Europe? If yes, you'd need to specify that and make it clear to your potential clients.

Hi!

I'm relatively new to Upwork and I'd love to get some feedback on my profile too. I know I need a more professional picture and I plan to have done next week, but any other tips and suggestion are very welcome. Thanks!

Hi,

This is a link to my profile on Upwork. I am starting out with freelancing, and I would like some advice to see if there's any way I could improve my profile and be noticeable to job clients.

Also, do you have any advice on how to write and submit proposals?

Thanks,

Michael Clemente

Remove any contact information from your profile. That includes the link to your blog because you can be contacted through it.

Well, you should start by removing the links that you have in the portfolio.

To continue, I also think you should delete the first sentence of your presentation, because, I'm sorry, but you are not yet a "very talented artist".
I think you should go through your portfolio and delete some things.

You are in a saturated market and you must realize that you are going to compete with real "very talented artists".

Thank you very much for the feedback.

However, for clarification, when you say I should delete some things, do you mean that I should delete the sections that I'm the weakest at? I feel that I'm very good at character designs, but my visual development water color paintings fall kind of short of them (I actually did them back in college years ago) so they could go.

Or do you mean that I should delete the weakest works from each section? If so, could you offer your opinion on what works from each section I should delete?

I'm not going to tell you which items you should delete. I think it is something for you to decide. Leave the ones you feel most comfortable with.
Anyway, I'm going to be honest. I think you have a lot of work to do to be able to compete here.
So keep working and good luck.

I think you have a very specific art-style posted on there that most people won't understand when they see it. Instead of just showing the characters, show them in the full landscape so we can understand this is an art style. On its own, it looks to the average person like it's someone who can't draw. But maybe if we saw a whole scene, it would all come together.

Also that's a very unique style so I think you have two choices. Either show other art styles on there. Like 2 or 3 more but they have to look commercial. Or show a lot of examples how your art style works in different contexts. Next to a product, in front of text, lifestyle shots etc.

The problem with your portfolio boils down to when I look at it I can't see how I could apply your skills to a wide variety of projects. And that's what people looking for you are gonna be doing. Is envisioning what you show them on their project. This is all my opinion, I haven't gotten a ton of work on here but that's what stood out to me.

Also the line about those characters being from something you're working on, the fact that we don't have more to see, it communicates a message that you're unreliable. We all know someone who's "working" on their passion project and you don't want to lump yourself into a category like that. If you say that it should seem like its almost done, not in the beginning stages.

I took out the part of the designs being part of a project I'm working on. Also the reason I just drew the characters is because I've researched what character designs for things like animated movies and tv shows look like as well as portfolios of different character designers. They mostly consist of character model sheets and collections of poses and facial expressions as well as turnarounds. I was using those as examples but you make a good point of including different style and landscapes.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hi,
I am an architectural and 3d designer from London. I have a master’s degree in Design and architecture and have 4 years of experience making buildings, drawings, animations and branding material of start-ups. But I cant seem to get a single job on Upwork!

I have tried to improve my profile, submit tailored proposals. But I find that most clients only are interested in people they have invited to interview or they never proceed with the job.

Maybe this is just my perception. Can someone give me some tips on how I can get started on this platform. I am close to giving up now.

I appreciate your help.

Hi, I will be glad if someone review my profile and provide feedback based on their experience that how to improve it and get jobs.

You need samples, bud. Show resumes you've written for other people (with contact information blurred out and experience anonymized). That PowerPoint is not a resume, and it is not, frankly, a very good PowerPoint.

"While I work with clients at all levels of experience..." What? This sentence is not finished. Do you work particularly well with entry-level employees? People in the C-Suite?

"Required form You:" If you're going to claim you have proper grammar and syntax, you have to watch out for typoes.

This will be really great to have a professional look of my profile. Please check and suggest me.

As much as I'd like feedback on my own profile, I feel like this thread needs a policy change.

How about:

1. To post in this thread, give feedback on the last poster's profile first.

2. Then, by posting, you've implicitly requested feedback from the next poster on your own profile.

This might solve the "no one's giving feedback" problem, instead of everyone driving by and hoping to get free feedback. 😅

Jason, that's a great suggestion. Thoughtful reviews take time and it is a volunteer activity. For those waiting for feedback, I would suggest to go through this Upwork article and critically analyze your profile step by step.  - https://www.upwork.com/resources/9-tips-create-freelancer-profile-stands-out

Jason, your profile will benefit from considering tip no 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9. Upwork has several freelancer resources under the 'Resource corner' (top, right hand of this page), that support freelancers when humans are not available for help.

Good luck, I am sure you will get projects that you like on this platform.

Where are your samples? You need to add some examples of your work to your profile, mate. How else can potential clients gauge how skilled you are? Also, where did you get 215 glowing reviews from? Certainly not Upwork.

Remove this: Still working and I love remote work.   No client really cares that you love remote work.

While I won't edit the whole thing as I wouldn't want your clients to get the wrong impression about your level of English fluence, I would update your first sentence:

I've been working as a post-production editor for over four years.

I would love to have the opportunity to have my profile reviewed. I have been trying to land job for a Human Resource client from the job board of UpWork. However, I have been unsuccessful and my connects is running low already. Hope the community can help.

Thank you.

John, I found your profile well-written and informative. With a successful contract, you are already off to a great start. If possible, create a short video of yourself and services you offer. Also, consider listing the services you will offer to Upwork clients. At present, your profile mentions your current work but not services you offer.

With a bit of patience and diligence, I am sure you will become Expert Vetted Freelancer soon enough. Good luck.

Hi Aditi,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I would definitely consider that and update my profile.

Josh

Hi! I sent more than 30 proposals. I did not receive any response from the employers. Can you help me which part I need to improve.

Am I dreaming?
Is it for real that someone may check my profile and tell me how can I improve it?
If so,Go ahead,I'm open to any suggestions.

Hi there! It would be highly appreciated if one of the more experienced members could take a look at my profile and inform me if there is anything there I can improve.

Note: I have two specialized profile sections. The one I would be grateful for you to review is the 'interior design' section. One issue that I have with the job classifications offered by Upwork is that there is no separate category for Lighting Designers. Therefore, I had to mix this Lighting Design thing into Interior Design section, which is not that bad, but not good enough. I have already asked Upwork to consider adding Lighting Design as a separate profession, but so far no news ...

Anyway, thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Warmest wishes from the heart of Alps,

Ehsan
