Within a job posting is an section labeled "Activity on this job" under which is "Hires". 

What does the 'Hires' field  indicate when there is a value of 1 or more?

Hi Eric,

If the client has already hired somebody through the job posting, that’ll be reflected in the "Activity on this job" section like in the screenshot you've shared.

Hi Bojan - thank you for the response; I have a follow-up...

If the 'Hires' reflects that the job was given to someone I'd expect that my submitted proposal would be archived with "Job is closed"; there are at least two proposals in my list that reflects this situation.

Perhaps my understanding of "Job is closed" and under what condition the proposal gets archived.  Can you clarify?

Hi Eric, 

Yes, once Job is closed the proposal is moved to the Archived section. Please note that some clients may keep the job posting open after first hiring if they plan to hire more than one freelancer on it.
