How Client pay us for performance Marketing

Hey I am new on Upwork I have some confusion that if we get performance marketing client on upwork then the ads spending budget will be given us first before running the ads or we have to spend it through your own pocket first or client will pay us after completing the project ?

so when client paid milestone you can work on it
