How do I get work on upwork with no connect?

Greetings to you all, I recently joined upwork, I have over 3 years experience in honing my skills and over 1 year work experience applying those skills, you can take a look at my profile for more information. I joined upwork with the hope of finding a job as an upcoming freelancer, but I hit a brick wall because I have to have connections before I can apply to jobs, which I think isn't fair, please if anyone has any ideas or opinions on how I can go about it, I would very much appreciate it.
