I was contacted by one of the agent from Upwork and was provided the work. I submitted the work. Then they asked ₹1500 for Quality check then took 3550₹ for Payment redeem. I have all the proogs and then asked me to pay 8000₹ when I refused they didnt pay me my salary and didnt give back my money too. They send genuine work from Upwork. I needed the money for my mothers surgery. I request Upwork to help me out with my payment and amount I paid. I have all the proofs

You were scammed - you never have to pay anything to a client in order to get hired. This person was not an "Upwork agent". Did you have an actual contract on Upwork? What sort of work did you do? If you formed this contract by messaging a client outside of Upwork - like on Telegram or Skype - then you broke the rules and Upwork won't be able to help you.

Your hourly rate is very high, yet you have no portfolio or prior work experience. Take some of the Academy courses and learn how to create a more effective profile and how to use Upwork, or you won't attract any real clients, only scammers.

Very unprofessional; show some compassion. Your company scams honest and hard-working people. The last thing you should be doing is blaming the victim.

Her company? She does not own Upwork for sure, nor should be considered responsible for scams.

Fact: scammers thrive on Upwork and they love new freelancers, simply because they hardly take the time to read how to avoid scams.

Surely Upwork could (and should!!!) do more to kick scammers out. But in the end, common sense and knowledge are the most powerful protections.

Instead of educating themselves first, many freelancers jump straight into a tank of sharks instead, and they end up learning the hard way.

I'm not the one who's behaving unprofessionally. People who come in here with two-sentence profiles and no portfolios and expect to be hired are absolutely to blame for the proliferation of scammers here.

Hi Ankita S.,

Don't go outside UpWork. It's not safe.

Before starting the work...

Know what not to do here.

For Example...

  • Don't go outside UpWork no matter who calls you. Do the work in UpWork.
  • Do not share any of your personal contact information.
  • Don't ask for money/5 star rating in message box. and etc.

If you need an answer to any question, search your question first in the community. If you don't get an answer, post your question. Because you will get late reply when you post.

Filing complaints is not what is important.

Filing a complaint is only about helping OTHER PEOPLE.

Before you can begin to help others, you need to learn how to use Upwork properly so that you can help yourself.

I am sorry that you had a disappointing experience while using Upwork.

The important thing for you to do is to make sure you understand what your mistakes were, so that you don't repeat those same mistakes again in the future.
